NOAH GREW UP WITH HAVING THE HEART OF OTHERS, whenever someone else was upset, he was upset with them. he was a huge empath, which was why he was always trying to make sure people were smiling.

growing up in a home where his parents fought over everything became slowly exhausting with each second that it lasted. whether it was about bills or about groceries, it always made him upset.

but they never got a divorce and he didn't know why. he would rather have his parents split up than listen to them argue every single day, because it began to really take a toll on his mental health.

"noah!" his bedroom door flew open, sixteen year old noah popped his head up and looked at his very angry mother with a confused, yet terrified expression because he didn't want to be yelled at.

he hated being yelled at, it made him cry a lot.

"why did you get a C on your biology test today?!" his mom asked through a shout as she leaned against the doorframe, he stared up at her with a look of sadness as he spoke,

"i- i don't know! i really did try mom im sorry—" he began honestly saying but she cut him off,

"i told you to study, didnt i?!" she screamed at him before walking over to his bed and ripping his laptop away from him, he stared up at her with even more sadness,

but when she got closer to him, he could smell the wine on her breath—-he knew she was drunk and whenever she was, she got brutally violent with anyone or anything that she didn't like and was in her path.

"i-i stayed up all night last night, i swear! i just have really bad testing anxiety and—" he frantically tried to reassure her but she threw his laptop on the hard wood ground, breaking it.

he stared down at his expensive laptop with a look of sadness and shock before glancing back up at his mother, who was so incredibly angry that you could practically see steam coming out of her ears.

he felt tears welling up in his eyes as he watched her turn around and walk out, slamming the door behind her loudly, causing him to flinch on the bed as everything else in the room rattled slightly.

he felt his back fall back on his bed as tears fell from his eyes relentlessly, breaking down crying—-he didn't even care about his laptop, he was sad that no matter what he did, it was never good enough for his parents.

and it has always been like that.

when noah was seven, he spent an entire week working on an art project at school, and kept it a huge secret to surprise his parents so he could see them smile.

he loved seeing people smile.

when he brought it home, he showed it to them, he was convinced he had never had a bigger smile on his face since it had been the only thing that had been on his mind for the past few weeks.

but they just shrugged and walked past,

muttered a small "wow" and "thanks" but didn't even take a second glance at it.

seven year old noah felt a weight crush his chest, that hurt his feelings, it really hurt his feelings—-he felt himself drop his head before walking over and placing the art project on the counter.

he sniffled as he wiped the tears of sadness from his eyes as he ran away into his room.

not good enough.

seventeen year old noah sat in his english class, staring at the projector but not taking anything in from the lesson, he just wanted to go home more than anything—-not to see his parents of course, to sleep.
