James, sitting behind me, was holding the lamp as the boat moved itself across the still lake. We all were craning our necks to see Hogwarts.

"Look! There!" Sirius pointed, and a looming figure appeared out of the mist. A huge castle, five hundred times bigger than my manor. Gray towers stood tall overhead, and a giant set of double doors opened, seemingly on their own. The boats stopped, and we all climbed off.

"My shoes are soaking now!" I said, frowning.

"Big whoop. Look!" James said, completely in awe.

We had entered through the ironclad doors, and into a huge hall. "Wow..." I breathed.

An old man walked up to us. His silver beard went down to his chest and his hair to his waist. He smiled at us. "Students. First years. How wonderful to see you all! Now, if you'll follow me..." he gestured for us to follow, "You will be sorted quite soon."

As we stood in line nervously outside the door, James leaned in to talk to me. "What do you think? Think we have to fight a troll? That would be sick." he grinned wickedly.

"No, idiot. We have to put on a hat that decides for us. Haven't your parents told you?" I rolled my eyes. Suddenly, Sirius's name was called.

"Black, Sirius!" I heard. After a couple seconds...

"GRIFFINDOR!!!!" One of the tables started cheering like crazy. I grinned nervously. Maybe, just maybe? I crossed my fingers.

After a couple more names were called, I heard "Evans, Lily." A pretty redhead walked up to the stool looking frightened. "GRIFFINDOR!!!" the hat called, and she smiled happily. But a boy behind me- Snape, his name was, I thought? - grimaced.

A voice broke my thoughts. "Black, Bellatrix!" I wondered why I wasn't called near Sirius. I didn't know Hogwarts made mistakes... I thought nervously as I approached the stool.

The hat spoke. Miss Bellatrix Black... it said softly. I see what you will become... I see what you will do... and that, is why I must put you in... SLYTHERIN!!!!!!

No! I cried in my head. No no no no no no no! I'd rather have had hufflepuff than Slytherin. I resisted the urge to cry right then and there. Bellatrix Black did not cry, I told myself. But Potter, Potter looked at me so sadly and I did back, and I hoped, I hoped we could still be friends.

......................................

I stumbled up to the dormitory.

A girl awaited me there- her bed was next to mine. "If you touch my stuff, you are asking for a killing curse up your unflattering arse." she glared at me.

I raised an eyebrow at her. "I am Bellatrix Black, daughter of Cygnus Black the Third and Druella Rosier Black. My first spell was Avada Kedavra, when I killed my cat with my mother's wand when I was two. I was borne to be a Death Eater and I will be as soon as I am out of this infernal school, and I will be Voldemort's right-hand leutinant. So, if you would still like to threaten me, go ahead. Only I should warn you- I am not frightened." I directed a look of loathing at her. Her eyes bugged out and she almost ran to hide under her covers.

I hated frightening people- especially using my surname Black, and my disgusting pre-assigned Death Eater status to do it. But I was tired, I wanted to go to bed- and the girl called my "arse" unflattering. That was crossing the line.

I crawled into bed and was soon fast asleep.

Thank you SO much for reading, I appreciate it. I really have always wondered why Bellatrix was so... terrible, so this story is of her hard school years to show why. It's going to be a sad story- I'm warning you- but I'm really liking Bella right now. I hope I got all the facts right. ( I made up the part about the killing the cat but it sounded cool so)

Please vote, comment, and keep reading! I love you guys!
