The masquerade was done in a rather formal, old fashioned manner. The girls and their dates would be announced. The girls would walk down a set of stairs into the great hall, (probably James's idea, gotten from muggle movies- for one, that was completely cheesy, and two, that was practically impossible in the dresses we wore), and their partner would join them at the bottom. I stood in the back room, waiting for them to announce me. I was almost last, as it was done alphabetically backwards by last name, (just to shake things up a bit).

I was, actually, rather nervous. I didn't want to face Peter.

It turned out I didn't have to.

They announced my name, and I began walking down the stairs, a rather difficult feat in my fantastic dress. Jaws dropped- mostly guys. But Peter was not there waiting at the bottom for me.

I almost cursed. He had stood me up? I'd be having a few words with him tomorrow.

A few boys- presumably going stag- hurried to the bottom of the stairs as soon as they realized I was without a date.

I assessed my options:

Rodolphus Lestrange- my future husband- probably felt that sense we were going to be wed, he had to back me up. I noticed his date, a Slytherin girl one year younger, looking slightly put out. Absolutely not. No way.

Cameron Smith- a Griffindor sixth year. He was rather good looking, I supposed, but besides the fact he was a year younger than me, he also was possibly the most dull person on the face of the earth. I didn't go to him.

Joseph Jacobs- a Hufflepuff boy, fairly interesting,  Seventh year, not a bad looker, either- but completely full of himself. I wouldn't be able to stand ten minutes dancing with him.

The last boy was Cameron Abbot. Quite handsome- I was surprised he didn't have a date- smart, as he was Ravenclaw... Actually, if I wasn't so stuck on James, I'd probably be into him. He looked excellent in his bottle-green dress robes with lavender embroidery that brought out his lavender-blue eyes. His black hair was nicely styled.

Yes, he would do.

I took his outstretched hand and smiled at him. He took my waist and we began to twirl around.

"You look lovely tonight, Miss Black," he murmured.

"Why thank you, Mister Abbot. You don't look to bad yourself," I said back softly. I took the time to examine the other girl's dresses- none of them were as fantastic as mine.

James looked amazing in his black dress robes.

After chatting for a bit- while dancing, of course, thank god  he was excellent at it instead of being clumsy- he asked, "Would you like something to drink? I think James Potter managed to get some firewhisky."

"I would love some." I smiled. "Thank you."

He nodded, blushed a little bit, and walked off.

He wasn't so bad, now.

As he was gone, I walked over to Remus, who was also alone.

"Where'd your date go?" I asked him.

"Butterbeer." He responded. "Where's Peter?" He looked interested.

"I thought you'd know- I certainly don't."

"That's odd."

"I'm going to kill him."

"Please don't get blood everywhere. I detest the smell." Remus laughed, and so did I.

"You look nice." He took in my dress.

"So do you." He was wearing navy dress robes and they did actually look quite handsome on him.  "I should probably get back to my date." I realized as I saw him walking back to where he left me with two butter beers.
