We set our stuff down and tried to communicate with the rest of our group back home to say we would be coming back later than expected but all that was on the radio was static. We knew we couldn't just go out like this since it was still broad daylight and the other humanoids would for sure see us with huge duffle bags and everything.
We looked around the room and it was actually pretty nice... really nice for an apocalyptic world because there was a working bathroom and seemed safe enough.
Deciding to take advantage of this, we took turns showering in which we ended up using the whole bottle of complimentary shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that we were surprise they just gave us with the room; but when we looked at the label on the miniature bottles, they were stolen from a hotel a few blocks down.
We got changed into our extra clothes and washed off the grime and stench from our old clothes in the shower before laying them on the towel racks to dry as much as they could before we left.
"Should we still take watches?" Hyunsoo asked.
"I think we'll be fine." I guessed and pressed a hand on the pillow, it was really soft. So were the sheets and the duvet was so warm underneath. Hyunsoo turned off the lights and looked through the curtains to the outside as I got under, it felt lonely so I just looked at Hyunsoo.
"Hyunsoo we've known each other long enough you can sleep in the same bed, besides I want you to get a good sleep incase we have to leave and run all the way home tonight or tomorrow night." I sighed and he just hesitantly walked over, lifting up the blanket and sheets before getting underneath.
"Lets sleep as long as we need, we deserve it." Hyunsoo exhaled and I chuckled.
"You can say that again." And with that I let my heavy eyelids close and I don't know how quick I fell asleep, but it was quick.
-
I woke up and I don't think I've ever felt this secure and safe in a bed, especially in a world like this. I opened my eyes to see red and green... dark red and dark green stripes. I looked up and saw the profile of Hyunsoo, he looked so peaceful while he slept... now I feel like a creep.
I sat up and realized we were really close, like we were like... hugging each other in our sleep. I quickly got up and just felt the heat rise to my face. Why was I feeling like this? He was just a friend, someone I could confide my secrets in, someone who was like me and understood better than anyone what was going on.
Maybe I did see him as something more? I had less time to think about that question when I heard a yawn and saw Hyunsoo waking up.
"What time is it?" He asked.
"O-oh its... lemme check," I said grabbing my phone. "it's September 26th. We've been asleep for two days." I exhaled in disbelief and he got up and rushed over to the window and saw it was dark out too.
"Holy sh-" My stomach began to growl, cutting his sentence off.
"I'm hungry too." He said, grasping his arms around his stomach.
"Should we eat something from the stash?" I questioned looking at our three duffle bags full of food and water.
"We should save that for the rest of the group." Hyunsoo sighed.
"Well do you think this place has something to eat?" I joked and he chuckled.
"Let's-"
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
"Hello?"
We both froze at the female voice on the other side of the door. Hyunsoo grabbed his weapon and I looked through the peephole to see a nice woman looking in.
"Hello?" I responded.
"Ah! You're here! My name is Kim Sein!" I could tell Hyunsoo got a small flashback to the lady from the apartment over from his that first night everything went wrong because he looked lost in his own world. I put a hand on his shoulder and he sighed and shook those thoughts out of his head.
"Yes, can I help you?" I asked.
"The other residents and I am doing a big supper before one of them leaves, would you like to join us? There is more than enough food." She asked. I grabbed the handle and opened the door slightly just to peek out the tiny crack I had created.
"What other residen......ts." I trailed as I saw the bottom half of her was a spider.
"Oh I'm harmless dear, we all are. We are like you! Half human, half monster, and we won't hurt you." She smiled sweetly. I looked at Hyunsoo and he nodded, so I took that as the signal to open the door all the way. "Now, how does that big supper sound?"
"We shouldn'-"
"We will, do we come now?" Hyunsoo asked, cutting me off. I glared at him slightly as the lady grabbed my hand and I grabbed Hyunsoo's to make sure he was dragged out with me.
We were dragged into a room a few doors down from us, we entered and there was about four other people waiting for us around a small round table with a huge feast of snacks on it. We were in shock, they were all in monster form.
"So our desires go..." She began listing the desires that are attempting to fully turn them but I only caught the very basics. But when she asked what our desires were, I looked at Hyunsoo but he was just looking at his hands fiddling in his lap.
"I don't exactly know my desire really, it hasn't talked to me yet like you guys say it has... but I had social anxiety as a kid and think I always wanted to remain out of the spotlight but also I wanted to be seen for how hard I was working for my grades and raising my sister. I wanted to be acknowledged in some way but didn't want to be in the limelight. Like I wanted to be a silent superhero who could do anything. I think having the responsibility of my sister also mirrors my humanoid form where I need to be everywhere at once to maintain not only my health but my sisters and my grades when I was in school. So in a way I am seen everywhere but my hallucination opacity sometimes isn't opaque which makes me think I can still be unseen like I usually want."
