PROLOGUE

(pov of Y/N)

I slapped my alarm clock, the annoyance taking over my body and tunneled into my hand. The monotone ringing making me hate the life I've grown around.

This was only my second month here and I already wanted to leave... everything.

"Y/N! Y/N! Get up! Get up!" I smiled faintly as my little sister Chaeyoung ran into my mattress on the ground and cuddled into my chest.

"Good Morning Chae." I yawned as I grabbed my phone that was on the ground yet still plugged in.

8:13 AM

I groaned and wiped a hand over my face. I looked down at Chaeyoung and just looked at her tired figure.

She was always the runt of the group, so short but so full of love and energy.

"Tell you what..." I trailed, "I'll call in sick for you at school today and we can just watch cartoons all day."

She gasped and sat up with a smile.

"Really?!" I nodded at her shock and she began jumping up and down until I eventually pulled her down and I got up. I tucked her in and she began to fall back asleep.

I didn't have the guts to tell her I just had a bad feeling about today.

My gut wrenched at the idea of going outside, I just felt so worried about leaving.

Yes I had social anxiety but that wasn't the reason to not go out this time, I genuinely didn't think outside would be safe for either one of us.

I got up and was trying to decided what to eat when I heard shuffling by my door. I looked through the peephole and saw a lady walking down the hallway, she stumbled but got back up which made me just think she was drunk. I knew there was a bunch of day-drinkers in the building.

I don't leave the apartment often, only for necessities like groceries which I buy in huge bulks so I don't have to leave every month.

I was just pulling out some eggs when I heard yelling. I opened my door a bit and saw the drunk lady yelling at my neighbor's door, it looks like her nose was bleeding pretty severely. I took a deep breath and I saw this as an opportunity to be a nice person whether I was helping the drunk or helping my neighbor.

I grabbed some tissues from the bathroom and grabbed the doorknob, I didn't twist it I just took a deep breath and when I was about too I heard loud guitar playing and looked out the peep hole as the drunk passed the door. She shuffled and you could see so many vein-like things showing on her face, either dark blue or black so it concerned me.

When she left the view I had from the peephole so I opened the door and watched as she shuffled up the stairs.

"I'm..... hun... gry." The lady moaned and I looked down the other hallway to see my neighbor looking at me.

"Did you see that?" He exhaled heavily.

"Yeah, what did she want?" I asked.

"She said she was scared because her cat was missing and her apartment had blood all over it, she wanted me to stay with her and check with her then she started saying I need to let her in." He replied.

"What the fuck?" I mumbled to myself and turned back into the apartment and closed the door behind me to see Chaeyoung standing before me. I jumped slightly, slapping a hand over my chest and felt my heart racing and my breath got caught in my throat.

"Chaeyoung what have I said about sneaking up on me?" I scolded as I took in a deep breath.

"Sorry, but who was at the door?" She asked with a yawn.

"Just some lady, she was probably drinking." I sighed and locked the door behind me.

"Let me make you some eggs." I said and held her shoulder and slightly nudged her into the apartment.

~ TIME SKIP: 5 minutes

We ended up running out of milk so I went down to the store downstairs.

I grabbed some milk and went back upstairs to see a man with his head down. At least I thought it was a man. He was very skinny, I could see his bones, and his skin was rather blue... like really blue. I don't know why I thought he was a man, or at least a human.

"Be nice, ask him if he's okay. Make acquaintances." I thought to myself.

"Um... excuse me? Sir? Are you okay?" I asked nicely with a smile.

"Who... is thaaaat?" He rasped and looked up, I gasped and covered my mouth in shock.

Half his head was gone.

"Sir?" I stuttered and he whipped what was left of his head towards me. I stepped back a bit and held my breath. He began walking towards me so I stepped off to the side and but my back to the wall and crouched down. It felt the walls and there were visible scratch marks on the walls, ear-deafening metal scraping sounds.

A single tear rolled down my cheek as he felt around me. Once he was past me enough so I could stand up. I began walking past him when I accidentally kicked an empty glass bottle. I froze and turned to look over my shoulder as that thing whipped its neck around and began speed walking towards me.

I said fuck it and ran back to the apartment and closed the door harshly.

"What's wrong Y/N?" Chaeyoung asked as I looked at the peephole.

"Chaeyoung shush!" I panicked and put the milk on the counter.

I watched as it passed by and I ran quietly to the window and peaked only my head out the curtains and saw so many humanoids wandering around on the ground.

Was this world finally coming to an end?

I quickly closed the curtains and felt something drip from my nose and looked to see a waterfall of blood coming out of my nose. I ran to the washroom and waited till it stopped, Chaeyoung talking to me through the door.

Once it ended... I thought hard about if I was becoming one of them? No one should've bled this much through their nose from just a normal nosebleed, this was way out of the ordinary, period.

I left the washroom and looked at Chaeyoung with a worried expression on my face.

"Chaeyoung I'm gonna say this and I don't want you to panic. Some stuff is happening that is really bad. So get the mattresses and my army knife and start cutting them in half to make a bunch of half mattresses. We have to be very quiet and keep our door locked. We need to soundproof this room. I will protect you, don't ever doubt that."
