Jack was having the time of his life in New York. He did not realize how much he missed New York until now that he's back.
Jack did all the things he used to do with all of his friends. At least the friends who stuck with him.
When Thanksgiving weekend came to an end, Jack was back on the cruise ship for the next few weeks and preparing for his upcoming exams.
A week after Thanksgiving, the cruise ship was docked by an island that Jack and his class were going down to visit as a class field trip. Thankfully, the island wasn't as cold as New York. It was warm enough for everyone to wear shorts.
"Okay, class," Miss. Tutweiller said, walking into the lobby of the cruise ship.
She took a piece of paper from of the students in class.
"Today," she said, placing the paper on the clipboard, "we will be visiting the ancient tomb of Xaria."
"I've read that tourists at the tomb can participate in a real archeological excavation," Cody spoke up.
Bailey gasped in excitement.
"I haven't been this excited about digging stuff up since our home got swallowed up in the mudslide of aught four," Bailey said. "which followed the flood of aught three and the locus swarm of aught two."
"Man, they make Justin look cool," Evan whispered to Jack.
"Tell me about it," Jack said. "They make me miss him."
"You know what?" London said. "You aught to move."
"Now, I assume you all did your reading and prepared for today's dig," Miss. Tutweiller said. "She said doubtfully," she said to herself.
"I didn't do the reading," London admitted, "but I came prepared."
She picked up a small light pink bucket with the letter L written in cursive. In it was a pail.
"I brought my own pail and shovel," London said.
"Haha, wow," Cody scoffed, arrogantly, "what do you use for a microscope? Something so old it was designed by Antonie van Leeuwenhoek?"
"Hah, good one!" Bailey laughed, high fiving Cody. "Ouch."
Jack shook his head.
"You think this is a burn?" Jack questioned. "Trust me, that did not have the effect you thought it had."
Cody's and Bailey's smiles disappeared.
"Yeah," Marcus agreed. "Ive heard better trash talk from mimes."
"You should go back to New York," Jack added. "You can learn better trash talk there."
"Or hopefully get knocked on the head a few times," Evan whispered.
Jack chuckled.
"How did you put up with Cody?" Jack wondered.
"You learn to tune him out."

They got off the cruise ship.
They road a bus up the mountain to get to their destination.
"Man, that bus ride up the island was awesome!" Zack said.
"I can't believe how narrow that road was," Bailey said, following him.
"Oh, I was so sure we were gonna fall off the side to a fiery death," London said, catching up with them.
Jack and Evan followed London to Zack and Bailey.
