Chapter 1

In life there are moments where you do not respect what you have. You take everything for granted because you feel like you are entitled to your desires no matter how selfish they are, and maybe this selfishness was the catalyst to her mother's actions. A loving husband was not enough to fulfil the desires of her heart, as she rejected him based solely on the fact that he was a janitor who could not provide for her anymore. She could not handle the thought of being poor for the rest of her life with a bothersome daughter and a colic baby. She wanted to return to her rich roots that she had left for the man making him promises of support, patience and love.

Maybe it was the same sense of entitlement on Mariela Raymond's part that got her father killed in that accident. The man who spent years sacrificing his own happiness for the people around him never found anyone worthy of himself, Mariela knew that now. She wished she could take back all the spoiled things she had done over the years taking her father for granted like her mother had. The people around her tried to tell her that she was not at fault, that she was just a teenager, and what happened had just been an accident.

The last words out of her mouth would never leave her mind for the rest of her miserable days, but she knew her father would not hate her. He was not that kind of person, as he had already forgiven her mother for leaving him. He used to always tell Mariela that her smile reminded him of the sun. He told her it made his world beautiful again after her mother had left.

Now she was on the way towards stranger's house, because no one from her father's family wanted to take in her and her brother. Her mother had not bothered because she had her own family, and their paternal grandmother lived in a nursing home with no memories. How was Mariela supposed to go in front of a mother who does not even remember her son's name much less know of his death? All her grandmother knew was that this strange young girl comes over once in a while to read with her. How would she react to the fact it was the same girl who killed her son?

"You are going to love the family." Their social worker Katya said from beside them.

A Rolls Royce with a driver had come to pick them up from the hospital, and from the looks of things the family they were moving in with was one of the richest in the Country. They were driving through the rich part of the town which they rarely got the chance to visit.

Tyler, her brother, and Mariela were both gifted with music talent, and they had taken part in some concerts and competitions over the years. Tyler at the age of seven was a prodigy with the violin and Mariela followed in her little brother's footsteps by becoming his accompanist with the piano. Tyler was more proficient at the instruments as compared to Mariela who in turn took to writing and composing music.

Robert and Amelia Zachary were both business persons, and were considered in the top ten list of richest people in the country. Mariela did not watch much TV or care for the rich to know anything about that world, but she did know they had eight sons, eight sons, let that sink in for a moment. Apparently they lived in the huge mansion sprawled on top of the hill overlooking the whole town.

They were also best-friends with their father once, before their father had been disowned by his family. Her father never asked for their help in all the twenty years, although they did keep in contact. Her father had started to rekindle his relationship with both Amelia and Robert after her mother left them. In his will, her father had wanted those two to take Mariela and Tyler in as their godparents, because he feared other family members would not in case he left the world before their legal age. The only help he ever asked them for, which led them to agree.

"Do you think the kids there will play with me?" Tyler asked Katya the social worker who was travelling with them.

"Considering they are all boys; I know you will have a grand time with all of them." Katya was fifty something years old so her sentences are a little old fashioned. Who said "grand time" in this day and era? Mariela thought affectionately for the woman who had been with them throughout the whole process.
