Chapter 12

I will never understand how I always get into bad situations when I don't have my claymore

I'll just start carrying it everywhere from now on

You took a longer route to Albedo's camp praying silently that the Fatui soldiers weren't following you. Honestly, this had messed with your intentions of coming, however, you could suppress your feelings longer. It wasn't uncommon for you to postpone things pertaining to you in the pursuit of helping others, and now your main priority was to warn Albedo, and make sure that he was safe.

Approaching the cave entrance, you came to find that Albedo wasn't there. It shouldn't have been surprising seeing as he's a researcher and probably would have to venture out, but you had grown accustomed to seeing him every time you visited.

Where would he even be..?

There's no way i could explore this entire mountain, that would take a lifetime

Sighing, it occurred to you that sitting and waiting for him wouldn't be efficient, as you had no idea when he would actually be returning. so you decided to head back down, opting to look for him the following day. Though, this time you took a different route down.

Then, you saw him.

Though not in the state you wanted to see him.

There Albedo was, holding his own against the two Fatui underlings you had came across earlier. In the back of your brain, you heard a voice telling you how dumb it would be to intervene. How you had literally just escaped them and had a fake cover identity. 

But as usual, you ignored the warnings increasing in your head, and grabbed the nearest thing you could swing. In this case, there was a large branch. It was a bit heavier than your claymore, but in this case, it would have to work.

Approaching, you could basically hear the proverbial bells of fate, chiming like a dirge.

"Two against one is a bit unfair isn't it?" You began

All three heads turned to you swiftly, never releasing their grip on their weapons.

"Mind if i even it out a bit?"

Your chest rose and fell heavily. 

You and Albedo had fought them both back after a long struggle, but not without any consequences. You were heavily injured; Gashes and bruises and covered your body. They had also managed to escape alive. 

Call it adrenaline, but you didn't feel any of it. You felt powerful; you had literally fought off two fatui soldiers

Looking over, you met Albedo's gaze with your own triumphant beam.

Albedo, however looked the opposite. In his eyes, you found no excitement. Rather, you saw worry.

Dropping your smile, you walked over to him, reaching out to hold his arm in comfort. At this he lightly flinched.

Gazing into your eyes, he said the last words you wanted to hear

"Y/n, I need you to stay away from me"

"What...?" you asked, doubling back in disbelief

Your eyes frantically searched Albedo's face for any indication that he was kidding. That this was just a cruel joke that he would take back. Yet, seeing his crestfallen expression, you deducted that he was being serious.
