(y/n) took a deep breath in, the sweet earthy smell of recent rain filling their lungs. the storm had knocked a few trees down in the night, but all the ones that landed in their yard had been moved before daybreak. they took a mental note to thank their spouse whenever she decided to stop by.

walking down the porch of their small cabin, towards the chicken pin across the yard, an omelet sounds good for breakfast "hello! um excuse me!" they jumped and stopped immediately, spinning around towards the wood line as four men stepped into their yard "who are you!?" they exclaimed in panic, backing towards the small shelter that held firewood in case they needed to use the ax that rested ax that was on top of the pile.

"we're not going to hurt you! we're a bit lost, we were hiking and took a bit of a detour but our comprise isn't working. could you point us in the right direction?" "oh um, sure, which way do you need to-" "do you live out here?" (y/n) eyes moved to a blonde man with glasses who seemed more agitated than the rest of them, before glancing at their cabin "dom! that's not our business!" "it's fine, I do live here, have for the last 5 years" "well then you should have a way to contact people, right?" (y/n) opened and closed their mouth, they wanted to help these guys, really but they also didn't want to deal with an angry spouse later "well? do you!?" "dom, stop it right now!" "I have an old CB radio in my house for emergencies..." they trailed hearing a rustling in the woods and a familiar growl "..but the storm last night knocked my generator, I won't be able to get it working again for another few days, maybe even weeks"

the man cursed and walked back, his head in his hands "don't mind him, you said you could point us in the right direction" "yeah, I know this place like the back of my hand. but I do need to know which way you're headed" "south-west" (y/n) nodded and took a deep breath, guilt pooling into their gut "well if you follow that trail over there, you should be headed out of this forest, you should exit pretty close to a lodge, a bit up the main road" "great! thanks mate, have a good one" with that they watched the group disappear back into the forest, looking down in shame at the fact they just directed them in the completely wrong direction and towards their death.

shaking the dark thoughts from their head they started back to their original plan, let the chickens out of the house, and collect this morning's eggs. unlatching the small door they stepped back, waiting for the flock to exit. leaning down they looked inside when no chickens appeared "ladies and gents? you in there?" standing up they lifted the roof, peering in at the flock that was crowed in the corner furthest from the door "what's wrong?" before they could investigate a dark shadow loomed over them, looking up a smile broke across their face as their eye connected with bright yellow ones "well hello, love" the being leaned down, her slender fingers slipping underneath their arms and she lifted them up to her eye level as she cooed to them "don't worry, I'm fine, talking to other people isn't gonna make me drop dead" reaching forward they placed a kiss under the bellybutton of her torso shaped head "I love you and thank you for worrying"  with a chirp like coo she set them down and cupped their face "really, I'm fine. oh! I almost forgot! stay here, i'll be right back"

(y/n) pulled her hands off their face and ran towards the cabin, once inside they rushed into the living room space and grabbed the little figurine that was sitting on the table. walking back out of the cabin they quickly ran toward the jötunn who had laid down "I made another statue of you! though it's a lot smaller than the last few ones haha" they sat down, leaning against her as they held out the small wooden figure. with a purr her slender fingers took it, her gold eyes admiring it before moving back down to the mortal who was smiling up at her.

"I made it last night during the storm, I was worried about you when you didn't show up" she let out a guilt whimper, looking away from them and towards the ground in shame "hey, it's okay love, I understand. you had to begin dealing with the trespassers. speaking of which," they said standing up and moving to in front of her "why don't you go finish dealing with them so I can get my dear love back? I wanna have a fire tonight and make s'mores, I picked up the stuff too when I went into town the other day" hearing the mention of the sweet treat (y/n) would make her, she stood and cooed to them one more time before moving back to the forest "I love you too!"
