"So who'd you make the deal with?" Sam asked, watching Dean with tired eyes. Dean had finally agreed to let us help save his life, except no one really knew where to start. Which left Sam impatiently leaning against the wall, while he quizzed his brother on his stupid demon deal.

Dean just shook his head. "I dunno. He just said he was King of the Crossroads."

"That all?"

"Uh..I guess he was kinda short...had a british accent." Dean offered.

Sam just sighed. "Dean, I don't need to know that, we're not tryna date him."

"Well I just thought..."

"What if we summoned a crossroads demon and asked them?" Bobby suddenly suggested. He'd been sitting in silence for the past twenty minutes, probably mentally cursing Dean for his stupidity.

"You really think that'll work?" Sam asked.

"Can't hurt to try."

I stood there in shock as I watched Sam threaten the man in front of me. He had him pinned against a tree, a blade pressed against his throat as he yelled at him. "Tell me who he is!"

The man appeared to be struggling against the bark, trying to get out of Sam's grasp. "I...I can't--he'll kill me!"

"Well if you don't tell me, I'll just kill you first. Your choice."

The man laughed suddenly. "You can't kill me-"

Sam pushed the blade closer to his skin, blood now beginning to escape the small wound in his neck. "Try me."

"Okay okay!" He said, holding his hands up. "It's Crowley."

Sam didn't even say anything before he plunged the knife into the man's chest, watching as he went still and dropped to the floor.

I barely had time to process anything before I felt Dean leave my side and walk back to the house. I quickly followed him inside and watched as he picked up his dad's journal and began flicking through the pages. And it only took mere minutes for him to slam the book down onto the table and begin pacing. "Dammit!"

"You okay?" Sam asked as he rushed into the living room.

Dean sighed as he ran his hand down his face. "There's nothing in dad's journal about Crowley. I'm screwed Sam."

"Dean, we're gonna find something. Just because dad never knew about him doesn't mean no one else will."

"It doesn't matter. Maybe we should just quit trying to fix something that can't be fixed. I've still got a year right? I'd rather spend it living than playing detective."

"Dean."

"No. I knew this was coming, death at the hands of a demon. A proper hunter's death."

"You can't say that." I said, stepping towards him. "Do you not care about yourself at all? It's like you wanna die."

He didn't say anything to that, he just stood there with that same tired look in his eyes. And it was then that I realised the truth about all this. He wasn't letting us help him for him, he was doing it for us. My voice was barely audible when I finally looked back at him. "You wanna die."
