"Thanks for a great night," I tell Jason.
"Thank you," he responds. He leans down and kisses my lips. "See you tomorrow," he says, backing away from me. He steps out of the door as I shut it behind him. I walk upstairs and into my room. I remove my jean shorts and tank top and put on leggings and Shay's old Guns N' Roses tee shirt.
As I lie down in bed, my phone begins ringing. Shay's calling me. I answer it, trying to hide the excitement in my voice. "Hello?" I ask simply.
"Hey, Em, it's Shay. Umm...we both know we need to talk, so if you're not busy, could we talk now?" he asks.
"Umm...that's okay I guess," I say, slightly uncomfortable that I would have to address these issues over the phone.
"I think we should do it in person though," Shay states, reading my mind.
"So do I. Wanna meet in my backyard?" I ask.
"Sure. I'll be there in a few minutes."
"Bye."
I hang up the phone, slightly nervous yet extremely excited to see Shay. I pull on an old pair of black Vans and exit my bedroom. I sneak past my parents' room. They're already asleep. I make my way through the kitchen and out the back door, into my yard. I take a seat on one of the swings of mine and Dan's old swing set from when we were little and wait on Shay. I see him making his way towards me just a moment later. He looks flawless in his tight leather jacket, still on him from earlier, with his hair combed up perfectly into the attractive style it always holds. His limp is slightly better, but he's still not walking normally.
"Hey," I whisper as he sits down on the swing next to me.
"Hi gorgeous," he responds. He eyes scan up and down my body, making me self-conscious. He smiles the tiniest smile, causing me to smile too. "I've been wanting to see you in my shirt again. It looks amazing on you."
"Thanks," I respond, blushing.
It's silent for several seconds before Shay says, "I'm so sorry."
"For what?"
"For everything. I'm sorry for cutting off things with you. I'm sorry for not telling you about Meghan. I'm sorry for you finding out about her the way you did. But most of all," Shay starts. He takes my hand in his and turns to face me. "I'm sorry for hurting you."
Shay leans in towards me, placing his free hand on my cheek. He's about to kiss me when I push him away by pushing on his chest. "No. I'm not doing this anymore. We can't do this anymore. I have Jason and you have Meghan. It's just not right for us to keep doing this when we both know it'll never go anywhere," I say.
"I'm not with Meghan anymore."
"I'm sorry."
"No, don't be sorry. I broke up with her. She's not the person I want to be with," Shay confesses, standing up and pulling me up with him. He places his hands on my hips and presses his forehead to mine. "I want to be with you," he whispers.
I'm at a loss for words and don't know how to respond to what he said. "Shay, I don't know what to say-," I start.
"You don't need to say anything," Shay whispers, closing his eyes and pressing his lips to mine. I run my fingers through his hair, lightly tugging on it as I do so. He softly sighs.
I feel Shay's chest rising and falling quickly against mine. He gently bites my bottom lip. He kisses from my mouth down to my chin and onto my neck. My head falls back and my eyes flutter shut as he kisses my neck. He lightly sucks on my soft skin, leaving another red mark, I'm sure.
I shove my hands under his shirt and jacket, tracing my hands down the sides of his body. He lifts the bottom of his tee shirt that I'm wearing and holds my waist under the shirt. "I really want to be with you," Shay states again. "I mean, I get it if you don't want to be with me. Why would a girl like you want a guy like me?" He kisses me again.
"Shay, you're amazing and I can't deny the fact I have feelings for you. But I'm dating Jason," I say as he kisses my neck again.
"I'm listening," he breathes between kisses. He smiles into the kisses he's pressing to my neck.
"A-a-and...Oh my God, Shay, just kiss me."
Shay kisses my lips once more before pulling away. "I should probably get home. My parents will kill me if I get home any later," Shay says.
"Okay. Bye Shay."
"Bye beautiful," he says, walking away from me into the darkness of the warm night.
