"Mornin'," Dan greets me as I slide into his Mustang. "How was your date with Jason?"
"It was fine," I say, thinking of Shay and me last night.
"It looks like it was a little more than fine," Dan smirks, his fingers touching the sensitive spot on my neck. "I may have to kill Jason."
"No, Dan, it's fine. How was your date with Abby last night?" I respond quickly, blushing. I quickly try to cover the hickey with my hair.
"None of your business," he responds, blushing.
"Oooooh!" I say obnoxiously.
"Shut up. When are you going to get a car? The whole point of you getting your license is that I won't have to drive you around anymore."
"Mom and Dad are picking me up after school and taking me to look at cars," I tell him.
"Thank God." Dan turns up the radio as we finish the short drive to school.
Dan parks in his usual spot and I rush out of the car and into the school, desperate to see Shay. I quickly walk to my locker. As I open it, a note falls out. I read it to myself. "Meet me in the parking lot at my truck as soon as you get this. -Shay".
I smile to myself as I unload my bag and start walking back outside and to Shay's car. When I arrive, Shay's sitting on the tailgate of his truck holding a bouquet of flowers. "Hey!" he calls as I throw my bag on the ground and take a seat next to him.
"Hi," I respond. Shay takes my hand in his and laces our fingers together. He raises my hand to his lips and presses a gentle kiss to my skin.
"I got you these," he says, handing me the bouquet of red roses.
"Oh my God, Shay, these are gorgeous. Thank you," I say, placing them down beside me and wrapping my arms around him.
"You're welcome, beautiful." Shay firmly places his hands on my waist. His lips meet mine. I feel him smile into the kiss as he lifts me and pulls me to his lap.
Our lips part. Shay wraps his arms around me and pulls me closer to his warm body. "I should probably go to class," I admit.
"What's your first period?" he asks.
"Study hall."
"Eh, I say you skip it. I wasn't planning on even going to school today. I just came to see you. I don't care if I miss class or not."
"Woah, maybe you do have a little badass in you. I thought that was all an act," I joke.
"Of course I do," Shay responds, winking.
I end up skipping first and second periods to be with Shay. As I decide it's time for me to go to class, Shay talks me out of staying at school.
We leave in his truck and drive around town with the windows down, blaring music from the speakers. I sing as loud as I can, not stopping to think about the fact I'm singing in front of someone else. If I was with anyone but Shay, I'd be self conscious. But when I'm with Shay, I can be myself.
