I pull away from Jason as guilt washes over my body. Why can't I stop thinking of Shay? Jason has been all I've wanted for a long time. "What's wrong?" he asks, referencing the shocked expression on my face.

"Nothing," I lie. "Sorry." I lean back in and kiss him, trying to clear my mind of Shay.

"Emily, I've been wanting to ask you this for so long. Will you go out with me?" he proposes. I should feel excitement, I should be happy, but I sill can't stop thinking of the events of the past few hours. I can still feel Shay's lips on my cheek.

"Of course!" I respond.

Jason and I return to where our things are at the top of the hill. We lie down on the grass and watch the sky change colors. My phone buzzes repeatedly in my pocket. I pull it out, secretly hoping it's Shay. Instead, it's a call from Dan.

"Hey Dan," I answer.

"Hey Em. I assume Shay told you about my...my, um, condition. It was a really sucky thing to do. I'm sorry. But do you want to go out to dinner tonight? Me, Abby, Shay, you, maybe you could bring Jason..." he trails off.

"Sure, that sounds good. And Dan, it's totally fine. I was just really surprised you drank," I respond.

"Yeah, me too." It's silent for several seconds. "Okay, we can take my car. Just be ready by 6:30."

"Okay. See you later."

"Bye." We hang up.

"Well, our first date will be with my brother and Abby and Shay," I tell Jason, laughing. "We're going out to dinner with them tonight, okay?"

"Anything sounds good as long as I'm with you."

I sit on my bed trying to write lyrics for the same old song I've been working on for a while. I lose track of time as I strum my guitar and sing, not caring how loud I am. I pause to take a sip of my water as there is a knock at my door. "Come in," I say, expecting Dan to walk in.

"Hey Em," Shay says. Butterflies erupt in my stomach.

"Hi Shay," I respond, blushing. Had he heard me singing?

"That was amazing. I had no clue you're such a talented musician. Your voice is beautiful." He smirks at me.

"Thank you," I whisper. He sits down beside me.

"You left these at my house," he says, holding out his hand. My pair of gold hoop earrings are revealed.

"Oh my God, thank you so much." I take the earrings from Shay's hand, trying not to touch him because that would cause more blushing and possibly an awkward silence. I put them away and return to my place on the bed.

"How long have you been singing and playing guitar?" Shay asks.

I think for a moment before responding, "About three years now. I'm just really shy so I haven't exactly told anyone about it."

"You shouldn't hide it. You're really talented." It was silent for several seconds. "Can I see your guitar for a second?" Shay asks. I hand him my guitar and he sits incredibly close as he begins to strum. He sings quietly as he plays. When he finishes, my mouth falls open.

"Shay, I didn't you could sing like that...oh my God, Shay."

His eyes meet mine and I do my best to maintain eye contact. He slowly leans, in but there's no trace of hesitation in his actions. My eyes flutter shut. For the second time today, I feel his lips meet my face, only this time his lips meet mine. The kiss is sweet and innocent. His lips are incredibly soft and plush. Their warmth reminds me of pressing a mug of coffee to your lips on a cold day. Our four lips fit together perfectly, as if they were made for each other. I never want to kiss anyone else. I'm not sure kissing anyone else could compare to kissing Shay. I'm so caught up in our lips melting together that I forget I have a boyfriend.

I push on Shay's chest. My eyes triple in size. "I can't do this. I'm so sorry," I say, extremely guilty.

"Oh my God. Emily, I'm sorry...We should go," Shay responds awkwardly.

"Yeah, it's probably time to leave." Shay jumps off the bed, his cheeks flushing red. He doesn't wait for me as he exits the room quickly and disappears out of my sight.
