(Picture is of Wingheart)
"You!" Wingheart growled. Foxpaw flinched, a growl? From Wingheart? Of all cats, Foxpaw never expected Wingheart to growl at a cat. He was usually friendly.
"Me!" The cat responded with a teasing smile, he glanced at Foxpaw, and at that moment, Foxpaw realized that the cat had amber eyes. Like Tigerfur... Foxpaw thought, shivering at the thought of his mentor. If Tigerfur was here, he would've ripped this cat to shreds, no questions asked.
Fireclaw unsheathed his claws,"No jokes." He spat, his tail lashing,"What are you doing on Leafclan territory?!" The cat, whom Foxpaw believed called himself Perry, rolled his eyes,"Why can't I be here? There's enough room in this here forest." He spoke so innocently. Foxpaw huffed, this cat was quite clueless. Every cat knew that this territory belonged to Leafclan, even those troublesome rouges.
The bright sun had started to shine down on the cat, showing that he was neatly groomed and well-fed, so he was either a kittypet, or a great hunter who was a bit vain in his appearance.
Foxpaw narrowed his eyes. Was this cat... a kittypet? He seemed to have no knowledge of the clans.
"Because, there isn't enough prey in the forest. We need every morsel. You endanger our whole clan by being here. " Wingheart explained tensely, his tail lashing. Realization began to dawn on Perry, he looked down at his paws, which were gripping the branch he stood on tightly,"Oh." He said simply, his smile fading.
"Oh! You just say 'oh'!" Fireclaw spat angrily,"You mouse-brained, fox-hearted sparrow-dung!" Wingheart turned to face the bristling warrior,"Calm down..." He whispered softly,"We don't want blood on our paws... unless necessary. " Foxpaw shivered, but then shook his head. No. He must be strong. Like Lionpaw. Like Bravepaw. Like Fireclaw and Wingheart. No blood will scare him.
Foxpaw huffed and narrowed his eyes up at the cat. Perry let out what sounded like a whimper. He seemed... intimidated?
Fireclaw looked over at his son fondly,"That's right Foxpaw, scare the kittypet so he'll leave our territory." He said, low enough for only he and Foxpaw to hear. A warm feeling filled Foxpaw from nose-to-tail. What was that feeling? Pride? Happiness? Relief?
"I don't understand." Perry said, confusion clear in his voice, he leaned forward in the branch, his tail straightening to balance himself,"Why isn't there enough prey? This forest is huge!"
Wingheart turned to Fireclaw, who sighed and nodded. "Part of this forest belongs to Treeclan. Our clan, Leafclan, has our own part of the forest with limited amounts of prey. " Wingheart explained, his tail twitching with a bit of annoyance,"We must fight for our territory. Listen here! A kittypet like you would not understand. Cats have lost clanmates! Friends! Family, for Starclan's sake!"
"Woah..." Perry said, Foxpaw noticed that he seemed a bit in awe. "Yes, 'woah' indeed." Fireclaw said, a bit calmer then before,"So do you see our dilemma?"
"I do... I'm sorry! I didn't know that! I didn't mean to endanger your clan! I-" Perry was cut off from his rant by a hiss from an annoyed Fireclaw,"We get it!"
Perry froze, then he proceeded to nod vigorously. The young tom was clearly frightened. Foxpaw narrowed his eyes at this, after his own moons of being in Leafclan, even Foxpaw knew better then to start showing fear in the presence of cats outside of Leafclan.
"Now... what shall we do with you?" Fireclaw asked no cat is particular,"Hmmmm... Wingheart? Foxpaw? Any ideas?" He said these words so slowly, they sounded dangerous. Deadly even.
"I say, we give this kittypet the message to stay out of Leafclan territory." Wingheart said with a smirk. "I agree." Fireclaw replied, a smirk growing onto his own face as well. "Wait, what's a kittypet?" Perry asked, it was Foxpaw's turn to be confused. Even loners and rouges knew what a kittypet was. Kittypets didn't know what they were... wait... was Perry actually a kittypet? Or just a dense loner? Foxpaw saw no collar, but that cat DID smell like the twoleg place.
"A cat who lives with twolegs and eats rabbit droppings all day!" Fireclaw snarled,"And I believe you are one!" "I live with housefolk, and my friend, Faith." Perry said, a bit bolder. "So you are one, that confirmed my suspicions." Wingheart said,"Well... I guess." Perry admitted,"But what's wrong with that?"
"Everything!" Fireclaw shouted at Perry, who still sat in a tree. "Foxpaw. Teach this mouse-brained kittypet a lesson." Fireclaw spat. Foxpaw nodded slowly, even though he didn't want to, he had to attack Perry, otherwise he'd be in trouble. With Fireclaw. With Wingheart. With Tigerfur. With every cat in Leafclan.
The young apprentice unsheathed his claws and took a breath. "Uh... I'll just go!" Perry said quickly, scurrying down the tree and starting to run. "Go get him, Foxpaw." Fireclaw growled at his son.
Foxpaw gulped and nodded. He started to chase the fleeing, frightened Perry. Perry was running towards the twoleg place fence, probably trying to get over it. The kittypet jumped at the fence and started to climb, his breathing heavy. As Foxpaw neared the cat, Foxpaw leaped onto Perry's back and bit down on his shoulder. Perry let out a screech of pain and Foxpaw could sense Fireclaw and Wingheart watching him. Judging his every choice and move. Perry fell from the fence and landed on Foxpaw, who swerved and rolled, so he was on top of Perry, instead of the other way around. The entire time, Foxpaw had not let go of Perry's shoulder. He could taste the sticky blood around his muzzle as it leaked from the kittypet's wound.
It was almost as if he were possessed. A feeling overtook him, and his vision turned red and blurry. Foxpaw's thoughts left him, but one remained. Kill. Kill this pathetic excuse for a cat. He's useless! Something told Foxpaw, Kill him! Kill him now! And Foxpaw obeyed, attempting to kill this helpless cat. I will! Foxpaw told himself.
Foxpaw finally let go of Perry's shoulder and the kittypet uselessly flailed his paws at Foxpaw, one scratched his muzzle slightly, but Foxpaw ignored the pain. He felt it, but he didn't at the same time. The pain did not matter.
Foxpaw bit down on the cat's neck and Perry screeched, suddenly a she cat's voice came,"Perry! Is that you?" The she cat asked and appeared on top of the white, picket fence. She was about Perry's age with a pretty silver tabby pelt and green eyes. "Perry!" She screeched as she saw what Foxpaw was doing to the tom.
The she cat, who Foxpaw assumed to be a kittypet as well because she had a blue collar around her neck with a bell that jingled, jumped from the fence and tried to overtake Foxpaw. He let go of Perry, who seemed to be choking on his own blood, and snarled at the newer kittypet. "Faith... *cough*... run..." Perry coughed out to the kittypet, whom Foxpaw believed was Faith. Kill her too... Foxpaw was told, and he jumped on the shocked tabby.
He bit down on her neck as she flailed around, trying to get loose, she was like Perry. Untrained. Helpless. Doomed. Foxpaw felt blood start to stain his paws as it leaked from Faith's wound. He ignored it, even though it felt warm and sticky.
He heard nothing. But he knew Fireclaw was saying something. Suddenly, he was pulled off of the kittypet. At that moment, he gained his composure again. "Foxpaw! What were you doing?!" Wingheart asked accusingly, and was that... fear... in his voice? "I don't know..." Foxpaw choked out, his eyes wide with fear at his actions. He knew what he was doing, but at the same time... he didn't.
Fireclaw looked over at the squirming kittypets in regret. He did that. But, he didn't. What's wrong with me?! Foxpaw yelled at himself mentally, I remember doing that! But it wasn't me!
Clouds covered the sun, as if Starclan was mad at Foxpaw for what he had done. Wingheart clearly noticed this and sighed, turning to Foxpaw.
"Foxpaw. Let's just go back to Leafclan." Wingheart said tensely and started to walk back to the direction of camp. Fireclaw walked after Wingheart and Foxpaw followed his father, ashamed of what he had done. Wingheart seems a bit scared of Foxpaw, as he had started to go into a jog and kept as far away from him as he could.
Fireclaw fell into pace with his son,"Good job... you showed them." He whispered to Foxpaw. Foxpaw nodded slightly, trying to look proud like Fireclaw. But inside, Foxpaw knew he would never be able to be like Fireclaw.
