Foxpaw let out a gasp as he finally saw the Gathering Tree. It was incredible! The tree was a large oak with long, sturdy branches. The mere sight of it made a cat wonder about anything and everything. Life. Purpose.
"Brilliant, eh?" A cheery voice said to Foxpaw. He looked up and over, Streamheart had walked over and next to him. Her gray and white pelt was shining in the light of the full moon. She was Bravepaw's mentor and one of Swiftstar's former apprentices. They had only spoken once or twice and Foxpaw was always in awe when in the presence of the well-respected warrior.
Foxpaw blinked once before coming to his senses," The tree?" He asked, rather dumbly in fact. Streamheart let out a an amused laugh, her whiskers twitching," Of course the tree, silly." She replied, a bit teasingly, in a sing-song voice.
"Oh, I think it's amazing, it's so big!" Foxpaw replied, but he was a bit embarrassed. Great, nicely done Foxpaw! Embarrass yourself in front of one of the most respected warriors in the clans! Foxpaw mentally scolded himself glumly.
Streamheart nodded in agreement, "I remember when I first saw it when I was an apprentice, I thought it was bigger then a mountain." She said jokingly. Foxpaw smiled slightly at this, his tail twitching.
The clan approached the tree and Foxpaw could clearly see that there were cats there. The scent only confirmed his suspicions, the cats were TreeClan, LeafClan's bordering clan. Foxpaw blinked, but TreeClan was still there.
Streamheart sped up a bit, Foxpaw looked after her, confused. "Foxpaw, you should go find Crowpaw or one of your brothers, I have to go speak with someone." Streamheart told him apologetically with a small smile, her blue eyes kind. Then she proceeded to turn around and walk quickly away. Foxpaw thought something was strange about her behavior, She seems guilty... He thought to himself.
Pushing that thought to the back of his mind, he decided to go find Crowpaw, like Streamheart suggested.
Foxpaw glanced around his still-walking clan and tried to spot the dark gray tabby, which was hard because Crowpaw easily blended into the night sky. It's good for night hunting, but not when someone is trying to find him in the dark.
He eventually spotted the tabby, but it was only because of Crowpaw's amber eyes that were seemingly glowing in the moonlight. Foxpaw had walked towards him and he looked over at him," I saw you talking with Streamheart, what'd she say?" He asked excitedly, practically bouncing up and down.
Rosepaw, who was still with him, watched in amusement. "Is Streamheart still your idol, Crowpaw?" She asked with a light chuckle. Crowpaw turned to the she cat and nodded vigorously," You bet your dinner she is!" He exclaimed," Anyhow, Foxpaw, what'd she say?" Foxpaw blinked once, before replying," Just something about her first Gathering." He flicked his ear.
"Woah, that's-" Crowpaw was cut off by Rosepaw, who said," Look! We're here." Foxpaw turned and his eyes widened. " Amazing, huh?" Rosepaw whispered in his ear, Foxpaw nodded," It is." And it was. The large oak tree was even more incredible up close. The bark looked golden-brown in the moonlight. Surrounding it was a large clearing with bushes and a small pool of water at the edges. Cats were filling in and many different scents filled the air.
Rosepaw smiled and Crowpaw turned to the younger apprentice," Let's go! Rosepaw and I can introduce you to some of the apprentices from TreeClan." He offered with a bright grin, Foxpaw nodded," That'd be great. " He replied, his tail twitching.
"Okay, come on then." Crowpaw started to walk off, Rosepaw next to him. Foxpaw grinned and started to follow them.
As the two apprentices led Foxpaw through the maze of cats, he was in awe. He'd barely ever seen so many TreeClan cats before in one place.
