eighteen - XVIII

When I finally arrived at the the small restaurant Mikey took Emma to, I saw Takemichi, Hinata, Naoto and one of Takemichis friends hiding behind a wall and watching Emma and Mikey. "I've heard rumors about that Emma girl.." Takemichis friend said. "Huh? For real Yamagashi?" Takemichi asked. He seemed shocked. "I heard.. that she was seen leaving Mikeys house with him, acting all friendly like" everyone including Hinata gasped.

I crouched down next to them "What are we talking about?" I asked. "Apparently Emma and Mikey are together but she still gives Draken hope" Naoto explained to me. I tried to suppress a giggle. If Hina wasn't going to clear them up then I won't either. "And it was the morning after she stayed overnight at his place" Yamagashi continued to say. 

"I'm terribly sorry.. but I completely solved the case" Hinata jumped up, pointing at Emma "She's without a doubt a two timer!" Now I couldn't help but chuckle lightly. "Come with me Takemichi-kun, all we need now are confessions from the people involved" Takemichi tried to stop his girlfriend "You're gonna barge right in? Maybe that's not such a great idea!.. Let's not Hina! This is Mikey-kun we're talking about!" 

"But I feel bad for Draken!" she exclaimed. I quickly joined up with her, walking to the siblings. Hina slammed her hands on the table they sat at and dramatically sighed "You two are the worst!" she didn't look up. I just stood there and grinned like an idiot, I tried not to but it was too funny. I turned away so they wouldn't see me and realize it's all a joke. "It's not what it looks like Draken!!" Takemichi yelled with tears in his eyes. "Draken?!" Now Emma was invested too.

"What?" Hina turned to Draken. He looked dead serious before he burst out in laughter. "You taking your little sister out or her birthday Mikey?" Draken laughed. Mikey only leaned back "Shut up" he mumbled. Takemichi looked over with tears in his eyes "Little sister..?" "You didn't know Takemitchy? Mikey and Emma are half siblings" the tattooed teenager cleared the situation up.

"What?!" Takemichi  leaned against the wall for support, he looked as if he just went through a rollercoaster of emotions. "I told Hina about it before though" Emma said. "(Y/n) too" Takemichi bit his lip and turned around to his girlfriend "Miss detective Yamagashi-kun?" He asked but she admired the parfaits with his friend.

Suddenly Draken pulled out a pink teddy  "Here" he grinned as he sat the stuffed animal on her head "Happy birthday!" Mikey recognized the bear "That's the one you wanted from the arcade last time" he pointed out. The blonde took the stuffed animal off her head to admire it with a giant blush. "That's all, I'm outta here" Draken grinned and left.

"So cool!" The boys exclaimed at the same time. "Good for you Emma-chan" Hina congratulated Emma gave the pink bear a tight embrace, squeezing it to death if it was alive. What I thought about this? I didn't know either. I wanted to cry but at the same time I was happy for her. Maybe Takashi was right. Maybe they'll travel around the world together, do everything together that me and Emma planned to do. Maybe they'll get married and have three kids together, maybe all our promises will be forgotten, foolish memories. Maybe love is simply not made for me.

Maybe when god or whatever is up there, paired humans together, he thought he should add a random third human just for the fun of it. Maybe. Or maybe this whole thing will completely turn around one day. Maybe one day she'll be hugging my presents so tight. Maybe one day she'll blush at me showing affection to her. Maybe one day one of us kneels down and asks for the others hand in marriage. Maybe one day we'll be the ones that traveled around the world together, got a child and lived happily until the rest of our days. Maybe she really just likes me, though doesn't want to show it?

What was I saying, oh god I was only lying to myself. I know better. I know that she'll never choose me over Draken. But that's okay, I was able to accept that a long time ago. It's okay because I've known all along. I never got my hopes up all that much. Sure sometimes when we were younger, I was talking to Takashi hours over hours about how I was going to steal her away from Draken, but I always knew I won't actually do that. I always knew that if being with Draken makes her happy, I'll support her in doing that.

Isn't that true love? Wanting nothing more but for that person to be happy? Wanting nothing more but to see their lovely smile, hear the beautiful laugh, feel their happiness nearly radiating over to you? Love is a bitch. I wish I never fell in love. Why did it have to be someone this unreachable for my love? Why did it have to be someone who loved someone else? Why did it have to be Emma out of all those people? It would've been so much easier if I liked Takashi instead. Why did life have to curse me like that. 

"You okay?" Emma asked me as she saw the unamused look in my face. I smiled for her and took out my present. Packed in a cute little white box with a pink heart sticker on it - the sticker was Lunas idea -, I put the box on the table. "Open it" I said with a big smile. The sandy blonde opened the box and found a silver necklace with two little plates. In one engraved a small E and in the other one, the first letter of my name. Too romantic? Maybe, but I have an excuse. 

"So you won't forget a promise we made" I pointed at my neck "I have the same one" Emma jumped up and hugged me "That's such a cute idea! Can you put it around my neck?" She asked and handed me her necklace while pushing her hair to the side. "Sure" I smiled brightly while closing the necklace at her nape. She turned around and smiled like a small ray of sun. I felt my face heating up a bit. Curse my damn blood, always coming to my head when I don't need it. 

"There's uh there's also the key chain in there, the one you wanted" I stuttered out. The key chain was matching to the jacket I was still going to finish for her. She rushed to find the lavender key chain and smiled even brighter. It was a simple paracord keychain that looked like a coil. It had a dark purple streak to match the flower pattern and a white pearl that parted the coil from the lanyard. It was a bit hard to work the streak in and it took me a few tries but it figured out a way so it worked in the end.

"It's perfect!" she smiled. I'm pretty sure at least half of that smile was still the happieness from Drakens present. "Happy birthday Emma" I congratulated her with a closed eyed smile.
