And so, one month, even dates and a plane ride to California later, the production was becoming more intense. Los Angeles was where they would be shooting the stunt scenes — including the highway scene . Of course, Melanie's job was the same. It was Seb who had some more work to do.
But of course, they still found time to be together.
Sebastian had been thinking. And he wanted her to be his girlfriend. For real. Maybe she wasn't ready for that. Maybe she was still afraid that the press would find out more about her.
So he didn't ask. Not just yet. Not until she could tell she was ready.
The last article had affected Mel a lot — she hadn't posted on Instagram at all (and neither had Seb, just to respect her decision, even though he didn't have to), they stuck to indoor, dark movie theater dates, and hotel room takeout or room service dinners.
He liked to sit with her on his break, when he had lunch — sometimes she'd be sitting with some of the other hair and makeup people, too, and they'd all make conversation.
One night, Melanie was feeling particularly adventurous, and asked Sebastian to come to dinner in the restaurant in her hotel's lobby: The Shell. Seb, of course, agreed, and met her there at six-thirty, like she had asked.
"Hi," she said when he arrived, kissing him sweetly.
"How are you?" he asked, sitting down across from her.
"I'm good. How'd stunts go?"
"Crazily," he said. "Today was a... weird day."
"Why?"
"Well, you know there's a part of the fight where Scarlett has to jump on top of me, right?"
"Oh no."
Sebastian laughed a little. "Yeah, she has to, like, strangle me while riding on my shoulders. It's... an experience. Chris was calling it 'my best day at work.'"
"And you had to, like, fight it back?" smiled Mel. She honestly thought the whole ordeal was funny.
"She had a string she was supposed to pretend to choke me with or something. I just had to pull it off and then lean out of the frame. The Russos kept telling me to stop laughing, we had to shoot through lunch."
"So that's where you were," she said.
"Not cheating, I promise," he joked. "Just... acting."
"Uh-huh," she laughed.
They talked for a little longer, ate dinner, then got dessert. It may have been two hours, but it felt like less for the two of them. And of course, like always, neither wanted it to be over.
"It was fun," said Melanie, as Sebastian pulled out her chair for her when she stood up.
"It was," he said. "I'm glad you decided to invite me to this place. It's good."
"I came here with Macy a couple nights ago, and it was really good, so I wanted to ask you."
Sebastian nodded. They stood there silently for a couple of seconds, waiting for the other to do or say something.
"I don't really want the night to be over," he said. "But we have work tomorrow. So I guess I —"
"Maybe it doesn't have to be," smiled Melanie.
"What?" said Seb, confused.
Mel's face focused, and she raised her eyebrows as if repeating the question to him.
"Ah," said Sebastian. He looked back at her, eyebrows scrunched. "You sure you're okay with it?"
"Yeah," she said, nodding. "But if you're not —"
"No, I've been waiting for this," he said.
Melanie smiled. "Then let's go upstairs."
She picked up her purse, then led Sebastian to her hotel room, glancing at him every so often and smiling.
