"Hey, Sebastian, how are you?" Evans's familiar voice said happily.

"I'm good, Chris, I'm good. How was last night? You and the girls have fun?"

"Oh, yeah. What's the call for? just to say hello?"

"Well," began Sebastian, "no, not completely."

"What's up?" asked Chris, hearing the concern in Sebastian's voice.

"Well, this could be something I could work out on my own. But I— you know, I'll just get to it. Chris, did you guys talk about marriage or anything like that last night?"

"Sure we did. Did Mel say something? Oh, my God, did she ask you—"

"Sort of," answered Seb.  "She asked me.. if I would marry her. Like... would I think about it."

"And what'd you say?"

"I said I'd do anything for her.  I didn't really think about it. We were... you know, in the moment."

Chris chuckled a little. "Right," he said. "Does Melanie remember?"

"She doesn't," he said.  "She was completely drunk."

"Hm." Chris stayed silent in thought for a second. "So you said you would marry her."

"Technically."

"Do you want to marry her?"

"I..." Sebastian paused.

He loved her. He loved her so much. And he really really did want to spend the rest of his life with her. Being boyfriend and girlfriend forever made it sound nice. Two people in love, together til death do they part. But the word marriage made it sound a little scary. Would he be ready for that sort of commitment?

"I'm not sure," he answered finally.

"You're not sure?"

"I love her," said Sebastian. "I love her a lot. But... I don't know. It's just... marriage."

"It sounds scary," said Chris. "But getting to spend the rest of your life with this girl? That's not scary. You think about it, man, okay? Call me whenever."

"Thanks, Chris."

"No problem."

With a beep at the other end of the line, Sebastian hung up.

He thought about what Chris said over and over. His "I'm not sure" turned into a hopeful "Maybe" within an hour or two.  Every time he saw her face as she was getting ready for her meeting, he just rethought his answer over again.

"Love you, Sebastian," she said, just as she was grabbing her bag by the room door, ready to leave.

Sebastian turned to look up from his phone at her.

"No kiss?" he said.

She smiled, then came over to him for a quick kiss.  But he put his hands around her and drew it out for longer.  She took a seat on the couch next to him and indulged in his actions, following every move of his lips.

"Okay," she whispered.  She was smiling. "Now I really have to go."

"I love you," he said to her, with one last kiss to her hand.

Melanie stood up.  "I love you more," she said.  She turned around and headed out, but not before blowing one last kiss at him through the doorway.  Sebastian made a catching motion with his hand.  Mel smiled, and headed out the door.

That's when he knew that he was going to marry this girl.
