"Girl, you are so in love with him."
"Oh, Macy, you have no idea."
Melanie and her best friend sat at a bar in downtown Manhattan. It was happy hour, and they decided to get together while they had real time. Work was coming in fast-- and when a movie wanted Sebastian Stan, they ended up wanting Melanie on their hair and makeup team, too. Sebastian would offer her up, and they took a chance on someone they couldn't miss out on, so that wherever he went, she went, too. She didn't think she'd be able to last without him for who knows how many months at a time, anyway. Just this summer they had been in Dublin for We Have Always Lived in the Castle. She wouldn't have been able to be that far from him for so long. Besides, she loved her job.
"When are you gonna make sure no one else can have him? Have you guys talked about marriage yet or anything?" Macy asked.
"I mean, not really," said Melanie. Oh, all the things she didn't know. "Not at all, I guess. I mean, if we do get engaged now, when Seb's got all these projects and premieres that are going on, and that I'm going to... they're gonna see the ring on my finger, you know?"
"Well, what if you just don't wear it around?"
"Oh, I'd feel bad. He bought it for me to wear, why shouldn't I wear it, you know?" she said. "Besides. Nobody's even thinking about marriage yet. We're talking about a ring that doesn't exist!"
"You want to marry him, though, don't you?" said Macy, a smile forming on her face once again.
"Of course I want to marry him. I love him."
"Do you think you guys are ready for that?" Macy took another sip of her drink.
Melanie knew the answer. Well, in her opinion, anyway. They're in love. They both knew it. They were both ready for commitment.
"Yeah. Definitely."
"I think so, too," said Macy. "Sometimes you two are so in love it's nauseating."
Melanie laughed. "Yeah, right."
"If he doesn't ask you, would you ask him?"
"If he doesn't want to get married yet, I wouldn't—"
"But what if he was just afraid?"
"Why would he be afraid?"
"What if he thought that you didn't want to get married yet?"
"I—" Melanie paused. She supposed she never considered that he could be thinking the same things about her that she was thinking. She thought she should probably talk about it with him. "I'm not sure. Maybe I would ask."
"Have you ever thought about what kind of wedding you would want?" said Macy.
"Of course!" said Mel. "Don't we all?"
Macy laughed a little. "I have an entire pinterest board," she said. "I used to draw pictures of myself getting married to a prince while in a big dress when I was younger."
"I mean, it is the dream," Mel smiled.
"You're living the dream," said Macy. "He's your prince. You're his princess."
Melanie chuckled. "He is my prince, isn't he?"
"One hundred percent," said Macy. "You know what I think?"
Melanie took another sip of her drink. "What do you think?"
"I think he's going to propose soon."
"Do you now?" smiled Mel, raising her brows.
"Oh, yeah. It's been two years. He has to sooner or later. I'm catching a vibe, you know? I think he's hiding something good lately."
"Well then, I suppose I'm getting proposed to." Melanie smiled. "But it is just a theory."
"Course," shrugged Macy. "It's just a theory."
