Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Trial of Life

Part 2: Unprepared

When Eevee put on the wristband, it jumped to life. It began displaying his health and level.
"Eevee. Health: 55/55. Level: 5"
'Level five?' He thought. 'That's odd.'

It suddenly switched to another screen, showing what moves he has.
"Moves: Growl, helping hand, tackle, sand attack."
'One attacking move as well?' He thought, confused.

The wristband switched to another screen, which confused Eevee for a second.
"Growlithe. Health: 50/65. Level: 10"
'It shows their health too?' Eevee thinks.

"Watch out idiot!" Growlithe says, snapping Eevee back to reality just in time to see the Onix swing its tail at him.
Eevee couldn't react in time and got struck right in his side.
He flew into the wall and collapsed.

He couldn't think straight, he felt like every bone in his body was shattered.
He was still alive though.
The wristband started to glow red and "Warning!" could be seen on the screen.

"Warning! You are low on health! 10/55"
'Dang, that took a good chunk of health.' He thinks and he tries to get up.
He couldn't get up. He hurt to bad. His leg was scraped up badly and bled a little.

A scream echos through the cave as Growlithe gets flung into the air and hits the ceiling of the cave and hits the ground with a startling crack.
The wristband jumps to life again.
"Warning! Your teammate(s) are low on health! Growlithe: 5/65"

"Growlithe!" Mareep says, before getting slammed into by the Onix.
Mareep was knocked out cold, Eevee was the only one awake.
"Warning! Your teammate(s) are low on health! Mareep: 8/61"

He could the the Onix getting ready to smash Mareep with their tail.
Eevee shakily gets up from his little pool of blood.
"Hey big guy!" He yells. 'Please work' He thinks.

The Onix turns to him, stopping his attack.
"Ho-" He gets cut off by an explosion and some light entering the cave.
Eevee gets knocked back down to his feet, scared.

"Where'd they go!?" The Marowak exclaimed, finally getting through the cave in that Eevee caused.
"Miss, there's a bigger problem." A Torkoal says, signaling to the Onix.
"Holy Arceus! That's a huge Onix!" The Marowak yells.

The Onix charges at them, but they were able to out speed it and take it out almost instantly.
The Torkoal points his wristband at he Onix and gasps.
Their team turns to him expectingly.

"That Onix was level 94! If they encountered that they would've been dead!" The Torkoal exclaimed.
Eevee, who was on the floor secretly watching this, almost gasps in surprise. 'Level 94!?' He thinks.
Their team looks around and Eevee shuts his eyes, knowing he would be seen.

"Holy crap they are dead! That's our job done!" The Marowak yells, chuckling mid-sentence.
Eevee could only watch as they walk over to Growlithe and Mareep.
They paused for a second. Did they notice that they were alive?

"Dang, they are alive!" The Walrein says, getting ready to kill them on the spot.
'Okay, plan A again.' Eevee helplessly thought as he shakily gets up again.
"H-Hey!" He yells, hoping his plan would work.

They turn back, surprised. They put all their attention on him.
"Come and get me!" He yells triumphantly.
The Torkoal charges at him with startling speed but, Eevee knew he had enough time to pull this off.

Eevee launches a sand attack right where the Torkoal was, blinding him.
"Ow my eyes!" He yells as Eevee gets up and runs to some seeds spilled from when Mareep was launched.
He picked one up as the wristband jumps to life again.

"Sleep seed: Makes the user sleep, even if not eaten." It says.
'Not what I was hoping for but sure.' Eevee thinks as he turns around and chucks it right in the Walrein's face.
"Ow, what the-" The Walrein falls asleep before he could finish his sentence.

Eevee quickly grabs another and chucks it at the Marowak.
It barely hits them and they fall to the floor, asleep.
'Thank goodness.' Eevee thinks as he goes and checks on Mareep.

"Come here you little [redacted]!" The Torkoal, who had finally gotten the sand out of his eyes, yells as he charges at him.
Eevee had to think of something and fast. But he had an idea.
Eevee quickly picks up the bag and swings it right when the Torkoal reaches him.

The Torkoal hit the floor with a 'Thud' and fainted.
Eevee quickly picks up Mareep and barely can pick up Growlithe as he walks towards the way they came from, satisfied.

(A while later)

"So how did we get out?" Mareep says, finally awake.
"Onix decided not to kill us, I guess." Eevee replies, trying to get comfortable.
"And you carried us out?" Growlithe says, laying down for the night.
"Yeah." Eevee replies.

"Thanks." Mareep says, lying down on the makeshift nest they made.
"No worries, I know you both would do the same." Eevee says, lying down on his little nest.
Growlithe walks over to Mareep and lays next to her.

Mareep smiles as she falls asleep. Growlithe also falls asleep shortly after.
'Why do they have to be so adorable together?' Eevee thinks as he falls asleep on his own nest.
Eevee hoped that his hiding spot would work, he found a really desolate place in the forest.

Eevee closes his eyes and tries to sleep, and after a while, falls asleep.
Eevee felt himself in a familiar place. He was back with Arceus. But, Arceus didn't seem to notice him.
He watches as Mew flies over to Arceus and tries to spark up a conversation.

"Hey! How you doing god-dog!. The mew says, chuckling.
"I'm not a dog Mew, you know I hate when you call me that." Arceus says, annoyed. "What do you want."
"No need to be so rude about it!" Mew spins as she says that. "Just checking up on you!"

Eevee swore that Mew winked at him when she spun. He was sure about it.
Arceus just stood there, getting more and more annoyed.
"What's wrong? Did a little war happen?" Mew says, joking.

Arceus suddenly lashes out at Mew, hitting her out of the air and slams her to the ground with one of his arms.
Eevee suddenly feels an arm wrap around him as he gets brought up to Arceus.
"Did you really think this would work? Hiding something from the god of Pokémon!?" Arceus yells as he drops Eevee.

"I'm sorry!" The mew blurts out, scared for her life.
"You've done enough of these things! I've had it!" Arceus says, charging up an attack.
"Stop it you imbecile!" Eevee yells, standing in front of Mew.

"This won't get you anything! You're just killing your only teammates!" Eevee yells at Arceus.
Arceus stops for a second. Did Eevee really get to him?
"Do you really think that I would listen to a mortal like you!?" Arceus yells.

Arceus starts charting up his attack again.
But just then, they were teleported out of there, and Eevee woke up.
Mew floated in front of him, relieved but also scared.

"Why am I back here?" He thinks aloud.
"I teleported us out." Mew responds.
"Oh, thanks I guess." Eevee says.

"We're safe here for now. But we must be careful, Arceus probably wants both of us dead by now." Mew says, getting comfortable on Eevee's nest.
"Couldn't he just smite us or something?" Eevee asks, preparing to sleep on the grass.
"Arceus cannot, in any way, shape, or form, kill a Pokémon. It is a rule to make sure he doesn't become a cruel and corrupt god." Mew answers.

"Oh, that's good." Eevee says.
Mew starts to close her eyes, and Eevee lays down on the floor.
"Goodnight." Mew says, then immediately falls asleep.

Eevee sat there for a moment. Wondering about everything that just happened.
'I'd I just stand up to the god of all Pokémon?' He thinks as he closes his eyes.
Eevee couldn't think of anything else, as he falls asleep.
