Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Trial of Life

Part 6: First Dungeon (pt.1)

Eevee and Poochyena slowly walked back to the village.
Eevee enjoyed being able to look at the stars without any light pollution in the way.
Although there were no constellations that he recognized he still enjoyed the view.

"Eevee?" Poochyena says, turning Eevee's attention away from the stars.
"What?" Eevee responds.
"We are close to village," Poochyena says.

"Oh" Eevee whispers and looks forward.
Eevee then gets distracted by the light of the houses scattered around the plain.
'Why is everything so much better at night?' Eevee thinks.

Poochyena taps him, once again making Eevee focus on the task at hand.
"How are we find out pr-" Poochyena starts but gets stuck on a word.
"Let's see if they have some sort of board for issues," Eevee says.

They start carefully searching around the village.
Poochyena splits from Eevee to try and find the board easier.
Eevee walks around a house but gets distracted by two Pokemon talking.

"Oh, Arceus what are we gonna do?" A feminine voice says.
"Calm down, I'm sure we can send a rescue team out for them." A masculine voice responds
Eevee immediately gets intrigued by what they're talking about.

"But what if they get hurt during the night!" The female voice responds.
"Honey, they're stronger than that! They'll be fine." The male voice responds.
"They're in Foggy cave! That's the hardest dungeon around here!" The female voice says.

They both went silent after that.
Eevee knew how they can make it up to the village now.
He walks off trying to find Poochyena.

He finds Poochyna walking around the medical hut.
"We found our quest," Eevee whispers, "We just gotta find Foggy cave."
"Huh?" A voice from the house startles them.

They both go silent and hope that they don't check.
"Probably nothing." The voice says.
They both wait for a while before backing away slowly.

"Foggy cave?" Poochyena says.
"Yeah, I think someone needs to be rescued," Eevee says.
"Well, there was map in there," Poochyena says.

"Ok. I'll go check the map. You stay here." Eevee says.
Poochyena looks at him and nods.
Eevee walks back to the medical hut and makes his way in.

Lotad was sleeping on a bed in the corner away from the map.
Eevee carefully walks over to the map on the wall and reads it.
After what feels like forever, Eevee finds Foggy cave on the map.

Eevee walks back to the door but slips on a Pecha berry.
Lotad wakes up and stares at Eevee.
They both just stare at each other for a long time.

"Why are you in my house." Lotad says.
Eevee doesn't respond, hoping that Lotad thinks he's someone else.
"Just, get out of my house, Eevee." Lotad says.

Eevee quickly walks out and shutters.
He silently walks back to Poochyena.
"Did you find cave?" Poochyena asks.

"Yep," Eevee says, remembering where to go.
Eevee starts walking to Foggy cave and Poochyena follows close after.
They keep walking until they get to a cave.

"We made it," Eevee says, exhausted.
Poochyena walks over to a tree and flops on the ground.
"Poochyena we should at least be in the tree," Eevee says.

Poochyena just snores in response.
Eevee sighs and picks up Poochyena and carries them into the tree.
"This spot seems stable enough," Eevee says, putting Poochyena on a cluster of branches.

Eevee lays down next to them and tries to sleep.
"Thanks," Poochyena says, resting their head on Eevee's tail.
Eevee smiles and falls asleep.

Eevee wakes up to pokemon talking to each other.
"So we need to find Politoed in this cave." A pokemon in a group says.
Poochyena gets up from behind Eevee and also watches.

"So us five need to go into Foggy cave and save Politoed." Another voice says.
"Yes. That is what I just said." The first voice responds.
"So these are one of these rescue teams?" Eevee whispers to Poochyena.

"Yea," Poochyena responds.
Eevee watches as they walk into the cave.
"Let's go," Eevee says, hopping out of the tree and into the cave.

Poochyena follows Eevee and steps into the cave.
Poochyena looks around, barely able to see around them.
"E-Eevee?" Poochyena says, shaking.

"I'm right here." Eevee replies, brushing against Poochyena.
Poochyena sighs in relief as they continue deeper into the cave.
"They weren't kidding with the 'foggy' part of 'foggy cave'." Eevee comments.

"How do these caves even work?" Eevee says.
"I think we need find stair," Poochyena replies.
"Stairs?" Eevee says, "Why would there be stairs in a cave?"

Just then, Eevee trips on the stairs to the next floor down.
Poochyena quickly runs down the stairs to check on Eevee.
"I hate these caves," Eevee says, slowly getting up.

"Wow, it's way easier to see down here." Eevee says, looking around.
They both walk down a tunnel.
"So where would Politoed be?" Eevee asks.

Poochyena shrugs as they walk into another open part of the cave.
"This is more like dun," Poochyena struggles, "dunge- dung-"
"Dungeon?" Eevee says and Poochyena nods.

Suddenly, A Sandshrew hits Eevee in the side with Rollout.
Poochyena quickly tackles the Sandshrew as Eevee's wristband displays:
"Eevee. Health: 44/59. Level: 7"

Poochyena whimpers in pain as Sandshrew uses Fury cutter on them.
Eevee also tackles Sandshrew as the wristband displays:
"Moves: Growl, Helping hand, Tackle, Sand attack."

"I only know 1 physical move!?" Eevee exclaims, letting Sandshrew get another fury cutter on him.
Poochyena howls as Eevee uses helping hand.
Sandshrew launches themselves at Eevee.

Eevee tries to sidestep but trips.
He winces in pain as Sandshrew uses Poison sting on him.
Poochyena quickly tackles Sandshrew and knocks them out.

"You okay?" Poochyena says, quickly giving Eevee an Oran berry.
"Y-Yeah" Eevee says, looking at the wristband as it says:
"Poochyena. Health: 27/39. Level: 7"

"What is that?" Poochyena asks.
"I don't really know." Eevee replies.
"Moves: Howl, Tackle, Sand attack." The wristband says.

"We both have 1 attacking move, great." Eevee says sarcastically.
Eevee gets up and starts walking, just to feel a wave of pain hit him.
He acts like nothing happened as Poochyena follows him deeper into the dungeon.

Sorry for not posting. I know how that's becoming normal for these but still, sorry.
I also really want to explain the rules around moves.
So moves in this universe aren't limited by PP.
Also Pokémon can bite, scratch, etcetera without the moves bite and scratch but it's like a less powerful version of the move form.
