Part 4: The River

Eevee woke up sore again. He had confirmed that grass wasn't comfortable to sleep on.
Eevee stared at the sky above him, amazed by its oranges and yellows.
'Why'd I wake up so early?' He thinks and almost gets up.

He remembered that everyone had used him as a pillow last night.
They were still asleep, which was worse due to Eevee not being able to go back to sleep.
Something felt wrong currently and he tried to figure out why.

He felt a wet spot on his neck and realized that Poochyena was drooling in their sleep.
Eevee really wanted to move except waking everyone else up wasn't worth it.
'Poochyena is too precious I can't' Eevee thinks.

Eevee decided to listen to the world around him again.
He heard the whooshes of the wind, the rustling of leaves, and rushing water in the distance.
But, he heard the things that he wished he would never hear. Footsteps and taking.

Familiar talking.
He knew everyone had to start getting up, and fast.
Eevee quickly tried to stand up and immediately woke up everyone.

"Wha-" Growlithe tried to say before Eevee covered his mouth with his paw and pointed to his ears.
Growlithe listened and immediately heard the talking and silently nodded.
Both Poochyena and Mareep did the same.

Growlithe motioned everyone to follow him and started walking.
Eevee grabbed the bag and followed him in a straight line.
They all cautiously walked, trying not to make any sort of noise.

Soon, they had made it to the river Eevee had heard.
"I think we're able to whisper around here." Mareep whispers.
Eevee tried to listen around him, but the water drowned out any other noise.

"Let's hope." Growlithe says, not bothering to whisper.
"Growlithe!" Eevee whisper yells.
"The water is loud." Growlithe responds.

"I don't like." Poochyena says, staring at the water like it was death.
Eevee also didn't like the water, he couldn't think of why though.
Eevee suddenly felt his head start to hurt. A lot.

Eevee winces quickly in pain, hoping that nobody saw.
Everyone saw him except for Growlithe, just because they were in front of him.
"What is wrong?" Poochyena asks, walking next to Eevee.

"Just, my head hurts." Eevee replies.
"Where?" Poochyena asks, grabbing an oran berry out of the bag.
"Not like that," Eevee says, " just like my skull hurts. I feel like I've forgotten something."

"Oh." Poochyena says, putting the oran berry back. "Well I hope you feel good soon!"
Eevee can't help himself and just smiles at Poochyena.
They just smile back in response and goes back to looking straight.

Eevee just enjoyed the moment. He finally didn't feel like there was something wrong all the time.
He let ignorance overcome him and just relaxed.
That's when they strike.

Eevee hears and thump and notice Marowak over a knocked out Growlithe.
"Gotcha." They say and launch at Eevee.
Eevee quickly responds with a sand attack and Poochyena tackles them.

Eevee's bracelet jumps to life again.
"Eevee. Health: 59/59. Level: 7"
Eevee didn't care about what it had to say as he tackled Marowak as well.

"Growlithe, are you ok?" He hears Mareep say as they stand over Growlithe's unconscious body.
Growlithe makes a grumbling noise and gets up.
Marowak suddenly uses Fling and throws Eevee into a tree.

Eevee hurt a lot and just laid there for a second.
Growlithe uses ember and lights a couple of twigs on fire. He picks up one and throws it at Marowak.
Marowak catches it and uses it as a makeshift sword and swings it at Poochyena.

Eevee quickly realizes and propels himself off the tree straight into Marowak.
Poochyena yelps and quickly splashes themselves with water to put out the fire on their back.
Marowak stumbles and gets hit by a thunder shock by Mareep.

Marowak looks weak and looks around.
"Look around yourselves!" Marowak yells.
Eevee is the only one to actually look around.

The forest was quickly catching ablaze around them.
"Guys!" Eevee also yells, causing everyone to look.
They all notice the fire raging around them and stop.

"Look what you're doing! Do you really want this to happen!?" Marowak yells.
Growlithe looks ashamed of himself and sits down.
Everyone else, including Marowak, sits down as well.

"Look," Marowak starts, " I really don't want to fight you guys."
"I just want to get this over with. But I can see why you're running."
Eevee had put together that they weren't lying earlier. They really were destroying the planet by being human.

"Sadly it's the only thing I can do but, I don't want to." Marowak continues.
They all sit in silence for a minute, just settling in that they had to die.
'Are we even doing the right thing?' Eevee wonders.

Just when everything settled down, Torkoal suddenly appears from the burning forest and tackles Poochyena straight into the river.
"Poochyena!" Eevee yells and gets body slammed by the Torkoal.
He looks over to Growlithe and Mareep for help but, they were tied up by Marowak and Walrein.

Eevee felt himself being tied up too and could hear Marowak laughing.
"You really thought that was true? I would love to kill you!" Marowak yells.
"But alas, I have to bring you back to the Rescue team leader." Marowak says sadly.

Eevee felt himself being put on Torkoal's warm shell.
He looks further down the river and sees Poochyena floating down it, fainted.
Eevee looked and the water and his head started hurting again. But he knew what had to happen next.

"You'll pay for this!" Eevee yells as he rolls off of Torkoal's shell into the river.
"Eevee!" He hears Mareep say as he splashes into the water.
Eevee felt a chill immediately go up his spine as his headache only got worse.

Eevee was quickly able to get out of his ropes as he swam towards Poochyena.
He catches up to them and grabs them and tries to swim back to shore.
Eevee gets dragged under and scrapes himself on some rocks below him.

He tries to get back to the surface but gets pushed down.
Eevee starts to panic when he hears a very loud noise approaching them.
Eevee grabs onto Poochyena tighter as he gets launched out of the river and over a waterfall.

Eevee panics even more as they fall towards the water below them as he tries to soften the blow for both of them.
Eevee hit the water and felt pain ripple through him as they drifted further downstream.
'At least we're alive' Eevee thinks after checking Poochyena's pulse.

Eevee suddenly felt himself get caught in a fish net and get pulled to surface.
"I got some fish!" A Lombre says, turning to his net and noticing the two Pokémon in it.
"Get the nurse as well! There's some hurt Pokémon too!"

Eevee was glad someone was coming to help them, and then fainted.

This chapter is the second most thought about chapter in this book.
The first chapter I thought about was just like a little scene but this solidified that this was gonna be a book.
