The boy looked around sneakily and when he didn't see anyone, he tried to climb back into his room only to stumble and banged his injured foot on the corner of the bed.
He tried to stifle his pained groan but with not much success since there was already another person inside his room.
"Xiao Hei, where have you been?"
The voice was neither warm nor cold. It was just a request for information, as he always did.
"I-I… I just went out to see… a friend, papa, please don't be angry…" he couldn't hold back the tears anymore. The only thing that he was so afraid was disappointing his father, the only person in this whole world that he loved the most. Also his sister and his uncle and many more, who had protected him when he was barely even able to take his first breath.
But then he felt the strong arms scooped his trembling body, gathered him in a warm hug and kissed the crown of his head, making him feel loved. He hugged his usually stoic father back and buried his head in the crook of his neck, inhaling the comforting scent of sandalwood.
"Xiao Hei, next time please don't go out alone. I don't mind if you want to meet your friend, but you have to tell me, and take Xue Yang gege with you. Deal?"
"Yes papa, I'm sorry I went out alone, I won't do that again." He sniffled and the big, gentle hand wiped out his tears.
"Now now, don't cry, or your sister will make fun of you again. Go on now and get prepared, ask auntie Qing to give you a cold compress before your eyes get more swollen."
The boy nodded, and he wiggled out of his father's embrace to find aunt Qing and get prepared for tonight's performance. But before he went out of the door, he turned around and gave his father a kiss.
"I love you, papa."
His father gave him the rare smile of his, and ruffled his hair.
"I love you too, Xiao Hei."

Wei Wuxian was one second away from regretting his decision to come to an idol teenagers' concert. The concert was held on The Cloud Dome, the biggest concert hall with the capacity up to fifty thousand people and it was almost 100 percent occupied. He was almost trampled to death and deafened from the hysterical screaming of the sea of teenagers.
He suddenly felt so old and out of place.
Finally he gave up and left from the emergency exit, while waiting for the singing duo to appear.
Outside of the corridor was the opposite of the inside's chaos. It was dark, and almost no one's there except a few merchandise booths and food vendors. The smell of grilled skewers tantalized him so he decided to wait outside while eating rather than having his blood pressure up by all the stress and the noises.
It didn't take long for him to finish his order when he suddenly felt very anxious, like the dreaded feeling of something bad's going to happen.
Wei Wuxian was just an ordinary human, but his instinct had never failed him, so this time, he went alert of his surroundings and no less than a few minutes later he saw a dark figure looming over something and it triggered his reaction. He moved stealthily, as it was ingrained in his bones, and got closer to the figure in all black and wore a mask.
True it would not be suspicious, after all there were a lot of people wearing masks nowadays, but what made him alert was the fact that the mysterious figure was on high alert, and his movement looked professional. And what more, he carried a medium sack, shaped like a wriggling and muffled sound of a tiny human.
A kidnapper? But who was he going to kidnap? One of the idols? Judging by the shape inside the sack, it looked like a small kid, not a teenager.
Wei Wuxian scanned around the dark hallway and suspiciously there was nobody, not even a security guard, and it made him wonder if this was an inside job.
So he decided to take action.
He took the discarded skewers and threw it all to the direction of the mysterious figure, and he heard a muffled grunt, a sign that his skewers had hit him as intended. He then ran closer and snagged the sack while kicking the kidnapper on the groin and while he grunted in pain, he bound his feet and hands with zip ties and ran away from him to take the sack; and the kids; away to a safe place before he contacted the police.
The safe place happened to be the inside of the VIP girl's toilet.
In fact, Wei Wuxian did not really pay any attention to which toilet he entered since the kid was obviously more important, but thankfully there was no one inside, and the place was clean enough to put the sack on the floor.
He would surely give this place a five stars rating later. For the toilet cleanliness. One star for the lack of security.
The sack stopped wriggling when he put it on the ground and instead started trembling, and he could hear soft sobs inside the sack that broke his heart.
Wei Wuxian quickly untied the sack and revealed a small boy about five, with black hair, and he was trembling so hard and hugged his bony knees as if trying to make himself smaller.
"Hey, hey, you're okay, I got you, you're safe." Wei Wuxian spoke in a low and soft voice, as if not to scare the obviously traumatized kid.
Obviously it worked, because the kid, although still sobbing and trembling, slowly lifted his head to look at Wei Wuxian.
And by the time their eyes met, Wei Wuxian felt like he was hit on his solar plexus. He just couldn't breathe.
The boy had a pair of luminescence silver eyes with faint gold veins.
The exact same ones as his.
"...what…"
But before he could finish what he was about to ask, the boy's eyes widened in alarm, and he reached his hands to warn Wei Wuxian.
"Look out!"
