Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian walked together hand in hand to Lan Wangji's office, which was located downstairs. Xiao Xingchen was already waiting in front of the door to the office to let them in and when they entered, Nie Huaisang was waiting with a huge grin on his face.

"I see you've met my employer, Xianxian." He spoke to Wei Wuxian with a laugh in his voice. He saw that both of them were holding hands, and he was happy to see that his boss had finally found the one he liked. Maybe it would soften him in the future.

But then he saw that Wei Wuxian was glaring at him. He could see where this was going by the tone of his voice.

"So, the length that you made me do for the info I asked you was just a joke then? The info was already scrubbed clean?" Wei Wuxian remembered the dress and the asshole who tried to seduce him, and how Lan Wangji came like a knight in shining armor… was that all just a ruse? What for, though?

"Well, you could ask your… partner here if you have any more questions. Right boss?" Nie Huaisang still couldn't help but smile at Wei Wuxian's obvious irk. He knew that the dress was probably a little overkill, but he saw how Lan Wangji liked it so much–even that degenerate Su Minshan, although he would chase anything in a skirt–and that's what's more important. Besides, he lent the car–well, Lan Wangji's car, obviously–to soothe his wounded ego of having to wear that couture gown.

That gown cost more than a year's income in a third-world country, and it was one of a kind with real organic silk and dyed with organic coloring. It was the height of his creation. Wei Wuxian should be grateful that Lan Wangji peeled it off him, quicker than it took to put him into it. He wondered now what happened to the gown, hoping it was not in tatters on the floor somewhere in the hotel. He should ask the housekeeping later.

"Did you find anything to report or you just want to mock Wei Ying here?" Lan Wangji quirked his brow and Nie Huaisang straightened his back, turning into his serious mode. He was not about to defy Lan Wangji at all cost. His brother might have been Lan Xichen's partner, but that did not mean that he had any leeway in business. That was Lan Wangji, the cunning and ruthless white dragon.

"Actually, I've succeeded in breaching the Wen's firewall just now–probably when you're making a ruckus which made them decide to reset all their security systems and that created an opportunity for me to sneak in–and I've got the files you've requested. They're heavily encrypted though." He gave Lan Wangji a flash disk and the latter put it into the laptop on the table.

"Wait, did you say just now? So what we're doing was actually a cover to let Nie Huaisang breach their firewall?" Now Wei Wuxian was amazed by the cunningness of Lan Wangji. It looked like he could predict the outcome of every single thing that they had done with only a slightest margin of error. He was very smart and ruthless and cold and calculated. That's why he could evade the police as Bai Shenlong for the longest time.

And he was fumed too, since apparently he used him for his plan.

"Now now, Wei Ying, it was just a coincidence. It's not like I'm the mastermind behind everything, you know." Lan Wangji smirked as he spoke with a light tone but it could have a deeper meaning for all he knew. And when he saw how red Nie Huaisang's face was from holding back his laugh, he knew that he was also being played.

But since everything was done for his sake, he's going to let this one slide. Not the next one though. He glared at Lan Wangji who smiled as if he could read his mind. Or maybe he could, he wasn't sure of anything anymore.

"I'm in." Lan Wangji paused to read the content of the flash disk, then he gestured to Wei Wuxian to come closer. "Nie Huaisang found secret documents that were hidden deep inside the Wen's server, and it may pertain to your origin." He showed Wei Wuxian the content. "And this is what I asked him to retrieve for me."

Wei Wuxian took a minute to read the partially encrypted document, and all he found was the snippets about his birth. He did not understand, so he looked back at Lan Wangji with questions in his beautiful silver eyes.

"This was just my circumstances of birth, what's so special about it to make them encrypt those files?" He still couldn't read all of the document though.

"Wei Ying, remember when I told you about the Dark Phoenix King, and that they were slaughtered by the Jins and the Wens? Your birth date coincided with that misfortune, and it happened thousands of years ago." Lan Wangji pointed at the numbers on the screen.

"Wh–what? Thousands of years ago?" Wei Wuxian sputtered with shock. "But… I'm human? Well, supposedly..." He was confused and upset and yet he was also curious about his origin. He wanted to know. And since no one ever told him, he was glad that Lan Wangji went to such lengths to look for information about him. Although he had suspicions that he had another motive behind it, he knew that Lan Wangji would not hurt him.

"Not determined yet, according to the artifact. And it said here that you were found as a newborn baby, and that you were in a state of suspension shrouded by mysterious black fog until around thirty years ago when the black fog dispersed and you were released from them." He looked at Wei Wuxian with some kind of enlightenment in his eyes. "And that was exactly what happened to Xiao Hei."
