Chapter Five
so much for a party
I have seen a lot of impossible things prove themselves possible right before my eyes. However, this is just absurd. No matter how much I try to reason it all out in my head, I just can't find myself believing what the hell is happening at this very moment."Stark," Steve called out to the billionaire philanthropist, breaking me out of my tangled thoughts.
"Jarvis...," Tony called out to our little AI friend, but no answer came back. I glanced at Tony worriedly, meeting his gaze, who was also full of distress. Something's not right that much I'm sure of.
"I'm sorry, I was asleep. Or I was... dreaming?" The robot asked, taking a step forward. Being the ever so protective man he is, Steve stepped forward in front of me, blocking my view from the tangled machine.
"What dream?" I asked, curiosity getting the best of me.
"Reboot Legionnaire, we got a buggy suit," I heard Tony say, tapping his device. I ignored him, though, my attention being drawn back to the robot.
"There was a terrible noise, and I was... tangled... in... in... strings," It replied to me, his beaming blue, glowing eyes staring at me. Steve stepped to the side, completely blocking any space for me and the robot to see each other.
I wanted to roll my eyes and complain, but the mangled machine suddenly spoke. His words sent a warning siren in my head and probably the rest of the team too.
"I had to kill the other guy."
I watched as Steve's back tensed up. Uh-oh, someone's up and alert. Not a good sign. I'm just not sure if it's on our side or on the poor robot's side.
"He was a good guy-,"
"You killed someone?" Steve asked, cutting the robot off. Yep, he's pissed, alright. So much for a peaceful party.
"Wouldn't have been my first call. But down in the real world, we're faced with ugly choices." I'm not entirely sure what it is, but those words sounded familiar to me for some reason. Like those were words that could only come from one person. I can almost picture someone I know saying those exact words.
"Who sent you?" This time, it was Thor who asked the question we were all dying to ask.
However, once again, the unexpected happened. A recording of someone's voice started to play from the robot itself. "I see a suit of armor around the world." It didn't take a second for me to recognize the voice. Based on the multiple pair of eyes staring directly in his direction, everyone knows the voice was obviously Tony's.
What the hell did you do this time, Stark?
"Ultron." Bruce suddenly spoke up.
I turned to him and noticed how his attention remained focused on the robot, unlike the rest of us.
"Ultron? That's its name?" I asked, turning my gaze back to the machine.
"In the flesh! Or no, not yet. Not this... chrysalis. But I'm ready."
"I'm not sure how and why, but you surely fucked up, Stark."
I didn't have to look at him, but I'm sure Tony was already rolling his eyes at my statement.
I then noticed how the atmosphere went from cold calculative to downright tense. Yep, any second now, and chaos will undoubtedly arise. What happened to rest? So much for a party, Stark.
"I'm on a mission," Ultron announced.
I narrowed my eyes at it. Whatever that mission it, it couldn't be good. I can practically smell the evil in it.
"What mission?" Natashia asked.
"Peace in our time." And as if it was some sort of magic word rehearsed for a perfect entrance, the Iron Maiden Legion crashed through the walls and flew into the lounge, firing at us. Steve quickly kicked the table over, giving us time to take cover.
What the hell is peaceful about all of these?
