Chapter Five
Fanboy-ing

I was genuinely dumbfounded

I was genuinely dumbfounded. I never thought that there would be a time wherein I would ever think of the people working at SHIELD as stupid. However, as Nat continued explaining how she and Steve ended up running in my apartment, trying to hide form a number of SHIELD agents, gives me the idea that if the word stupid has a given example in the dictionary a list of SHIELD agents would be written right below it.

How in the world did those idiots end up blaming Captain America out of all people? I just can't seem to wrap my mind on any possible reason they have.

I let out a heavy sigh as I stared at the two Avengers sitting on my couch. "How stupid can they be?" I finally said out loud. The two just shrugged their shoulders, obviously finding the situation as ridiculous as I do.

I mean, yes, it is in fact a given that Steve was the last person Director Fury was with before he died. However, how in the world are they going to explain the series of bullets that were found in Fury's body? From what the initial investigation said, those bullets were most likely fired from a certain distance. Distance that wouldn't put Steve inside his apartment at all. How can Steve, despite being a super soldier, do that?

Not to mention, I literally have footage of Steve going in and out of the facility where Margaret Carter was confined. It certainly gives Steve the perfect alibi. There's enough evidence to prove himself innocent from their accusation.

"Well, what do you two plan on doing?" Steve glanced at Nat before putting his focus back at me. "We plan on finding out who actually killed Fury." I nodded at his words. I mean it's the only way he'll be able to clear his name. Finding the real culprit.

"Alright then. So, how do you exactly plan on doing that?" I asked, Nat then reached inside her pocket before handing me a flash drive. She then proceeds to explain how Fury gave it to Steve before the director was shot multiple times.

I took a moment and studied the flash drive, letting it rest on the palm of my hand. "Well, we can't really open whatever's inside here. We have to use a public computer so they wouldn't trace us."

"Us?" Steve asked, seemingly surprised by the word I used.

"Uh, yeah. Us." I confirmed, handing the flash drive back to Nat who immediately placed it back to the safety of her jeans' pocket. "I'm not gonna be left behind here while the both of you look for answers. I wanna know what happened to Fury as much as the both of you do."

Steve and I shared with each other for a while. I'm not exactly sure what he's trying to see but I'm definitely not backing down. He may be Captain America, but this is Fury we're talking about. I'm not stepping back.

The staring contest was then broken off by Steve as he was the first one to look away. I sighed before turning to look at Nat who was smirking at me. I raised a brow at her, wondering why she's suddenly smirking. She just shakes her no, making me more curious.

I then proceed to head to the kitchen to prepare a cup of coffee for the two Avengers. I was lucky enough to still have enough supplies to prepare anything for my two visitors. I don't usually go out for groceries so it's pretty fortunate for me to even have anything in my cupboard.

As soon as three cups of coffee were settled on top of the coffee table, I decided to ask another question. "Do you guys have any idea on who could possibly do this?"

Nat and Steve glanced at each other before looking back at me who was already taking a sip of my still hot coffee. "Well, Romanoff here said an assassin called Winter Soldier may have the capacity to do this kind of damage."

I immediately stopped my movements as soon as I heard the name Steve just mentioned. I then took a huge gulp of the hot beverage before speaking up, "You've got to be kidding me."

"Why? Do you know him too?" Steve asked, curiosity dancing in his eyes. I was then somehow full of energy, excited to talk about the man called Winter Soldier.

"Are you kidding me?! That guy's practically a legendary assassin. At least in our field of work. He's known to finish his missions without fail or unnecessary damage."

I know I looked and sounded as if I'm talking about someone I admire and I'm sure that put Steve off. I mean, how can someone like, who works for SHIELD, talk about an assassin who's most likely the one who assassinated Nick Fury. with so much excitement?

Well, it's not like I can always control what I feel.

"And those who were able to encounter him, like Nat here..." I casually pointed at the said girl, "...said that he wears a mask of some-sort to hide his identity."

"And you know those things because??" Steve finally asked as soon as I finished my sudden rant about the ghost assassin. I then immediately felt my cheeks get warm by the question. I'm a hundred percent sure that I'm blushing. Damn me and my easily flustered self.

"Well I uh..." My voice suddenly got weak as I contemplated on whether or not I should tell Steve the main reason as to why I know so much about the Winter Soldier. However, knowing that it will only lead to more questions, I decided to give the more simple yet obviously embarrassing answer. "...I've conducted a few researches about him."

"In other words, he's a fan." I immediately glared at the female Avenger who was already smirking smugly at me. Steve, on the other hand, looks more confused than ever.

He then proceeded to stare at me. I can practically see the gears in his head moving, seriously thinking of something. His eyebrows even furrowed, as if he's having a mental debate about something. He then turned away after a few more seconds, looking anywhere else but me.

"Well, let's call it a day for now. We have big things to do as soon as the sun rises. If we want to know what's inside that flash drive, we have to find a computer or something." Steve then stated, still avoiding looking at me. He's somehow trying to give his full attention to Nat who was sitting a few inches beside him.

"...alright then." I awkwardly agreed. "I'll also get the both of you something to wear so we wouldn't be easily recognized tomorrow. I'm sure we can use a public computer at the local mall." I then informed the two who just nodded at me.

Steve, still avoiding my gaze.
