Summer 1976

Another summer. The days being unpredictable and the weather following that same pattern. Birds tweeting cheerily at dawn when the sun would shine brightly on Remus' face every single morning. He liked Summer mornings a lot more than winter ones but sometimes he preferred to sleep in instead of being woken by an overexcited bluebird.

This particular morning was difficult enough to face, since he knew his impending homework would be due in a matter of days.

The sandy haired boy looked over at the small digital clock beside his bed and the red flash told him that it was 7:30am.

"shit" he thought, really not wanting to get out of bed. Usually on September 1st he'd be glad to be leaving St Edmunds but he'd be going back to Sirius. Which was something he couldn't be bothered to face right now. At that moment, the birds began a round of tweets and Remus stood up to shut the window. This movement caused a groan to come from the other bed.

"Don't close the window, it's so bloody warm" came the muffled voice of Grant Chapman who had his face buried in his pillow. Remus sighed before making his way back to his bed and pulling on a white t shirt and heading over to grab his dressing gown from the doorway.

"Whattimeisit?" Grant asked, finally raising his head from the pillow, his blonde curls sticking up to one side. Remus smiled slightly to himself as he tied his dressing gown.

"7:30" Remus responded, surpassing another yawn. He knew he'd have to get used to early mornings now that he had to go back to Hogwarts for a new term, but he didn't enjoy mornings all the same.

"Why you up?" Grant asked, finally pulling himself into a sitting position and opening one eye to look at Remus.

"Forgot to pack so, figured I should get up early" Remus explained, heading over to the corner of the room and grabbing a brown and run down bag. It was big enough to fit his clothes, uniform, wand, tie and wizard currency in which Remus felt lucky about. He remembered how small his bag was in first year.

"oh shit yeah" grant said, opening both eyes like he'd been given an electric shock "You go off to school today" he remembered with a small sigh.

"Yeah" remus responded with a guilty sort of smile before opening his bag and placing his uniform in. Everything else was in a room downstairs, locked so the other boys wouldn't find it.

"Well, I'm sure you'll have a great year" Grant said, his cheerful smile returning as he got out of bed, clearly now wide awake.

"Not too sure, we'll be getting ready for exams next year" Remus muttered absentmindedly as he put his Gryffindor robes and tie at the bottom of his bag.

"But you don't technically have to worry about that until next year really" Grant pointed out as he grabbed his own dressing gown, putting it on.

"Our teachers may not be as sure about that" Remus explained as he stood up, placing his bag on his bed. He looked at the door and sighed to himself.

"I'll have to get the rest of my stuff from the downstairs room" Remus said, still feeling tired but knowing he had to get this packing done and then be down for breakfast.

"I'll get it for you if you want" Grant said with a shrug.

"No" Remus said almost too quickly which caused Grant to raise an eyebrow.

"I'll get it. You can go back to bed and get another hour of sleep" Remus said heading to the door at a quick pace.

"I'm already awake now love" Grant pointed out with a light chuckle before he grabbed Remus' wrist gently, making him stop in his tracks.
