The next week passed without incident, finishing the three shows in LA and moving east. It was early in the morning when Lilith woke, quietly leaving the back of the bus to make some tea. The sun was peaking over the red plateaus of the Arizona desert, casting long shadows over the arid ground. With a hot tea in tow she sat on the couch and watched the sun raise higher above the horizon. Over the past week, she had been trying to strengthen her powers as well as recover from her twisted ankle. Though Air and Earth had offered to help her, she decided to peruse this without their knowledge. The stress of work, soul searching, and honing her powers had taken a toll on her already thin and taxed body. She was unable to eat more than once a day and sleep was hard to come by.
Lilith sipped on her tea, thinking about spring term which was approaching quickly. Papa had agreed to let her attend school, since she would only be missing 2 shows. She would then join them for their summer European tour. She curled up on the couch, swirling the tea bag around with her finger. Alpha came into the main cabin from the back and sat down next to her, Lilith avoiding his eyes. He examined her, pained by her sorry state. Large circles had developed under her eyes, her face looked thinner and paler. She had been struggling with nightmares, though she didn't talk about it. Since the show in Riverside, she was unreachable, only operating on a professional level.
"You're up early." She said to him, not looking up from the dancing tea.
"As are you." He replied. She had been distancing herself from them over the past week, especially since she knew she would be leaving. They sat for a few minutes in silence before he spoke again. "So, I heard that you are going to stay in a hotel while we're in Phoenix."
"Yeah, I'm paying for it with my own money." She finally glanced up at him, then out at the passing scenery. He frowned at her comment.
"I'm not worried about money, Lilith. I'm worried about you." He leaned in, the heat of his body warming her legs. She looked back at him with a small smile.
"Don't worry. I just need to get out of this bus for a couple nights." She said in an upbeat voice. He sighed and leaned back, crossing his arms.
"You will have to accept us at some point Lilith. We are forever with you." He chided, his intense eyes keeping her from looking away. She smiled a bit wider and forced herself to look out the window again. She had not allowed herself to acknowledge that they were something unearthly; hellish demons masquerading as humans. Every time her mind dredged up the fact, an intense nausea gripped her stomach. When they were possessive, hinting at her being with them forever, she could feel that panic bubble up. All she could do was distract herself and shut them out. Alpha was frustrated with her despondent attitude but didn't know how best to reach her. He grunted, stood up and walked to the back, closing the door behind him. Lilith frowned as he walked away.
Focusing on her tea, she concentrated intently on the tea bag. She pictured it raising up, the tea dripping from it. It began to quiver, rippling the surface. She closed her eyes tight, forcing herself to exert just enough energy on the image. Control had been the hardest thing to practice and master. She looked to see the tea bag hovering inches above the cup.
"Yes!" she whispered when the back door slammed open. The tea bag dropped into the cup, splashing hot liquid on her leg. "Fuck!" she jumped up, brushing off her leg. An angry welt had already started to appear, the redness contrasting with her milky white skin. Omega and Alpha looked at her in confusion.
"Jumpy today?" Omega asked rhetorically. She wouldn't have answered anyways. She hadn't spoken to him in a week. She didn't think he had even noticed, the two cohabitating but nothing more. The men sat in the two chairs across from her and turned on the T.V. above her. She rolled her eyes and sat back down, scooting to the far end of the couch. Earth came bounding out of the back moments later, walking quickly, then sliding on the couch to her. She laughed and hugged him.
