"Love is heavy and light, bright and dark, hot and cold, sick but healthy, asleep but awake- it's everything except what it is" -William Shakespeare

It was a stupid mistake. I should have never trusted that man, he promised me false hopes; then again- I should have known better.

One wrong move, and I lost everything. How you ask? Let's start from the beginning.

-

"No seriously, Em, plays are stupid. I don't understand how this letter means anything." I crumbled up the sheet of paper my principal handed me while standing next to my best friend.

"Lex.. he told you plain and simple- you won't graduate if you don't do this play." Emily stated, taking the paper from my hands and opening it.

"It's for Romeo and Juliet, how damn cliché" I scoff, and walked to my next class as the bell rang.

I adjusted my bag on my shoulder while rolling my eyes; before she could say anymore, I repeated what she says all the time in a mocking tone; "yes but there is no hurt in trying something new. You never try anything new." She giggled and sighed, "I was gonna say no, actually, it's a classic.." I sighed and shook my head, of course she would know that. "Seriously Em, I don't think skipping out on this would be that bad". We walked into our separate classes to end the day.

My last class dragged on, mainly because Mr. Hunter spoke in such a monotone; I would have much rather counted the knits on my grandmother's sweater. Sweet old lady, but as a joke to torture me, she actually asked me to do that once. I yawned as Mr. Hunter turned to the white board. I took my pencil and went to draw on my homework, just as I saw the crumpled paper hanging out of my bag. I rolled my eyes again and scoffed at myself while picking it up.

I shot my eyes up to the clock, 2:45, is what I read. If I am the first one out when the bell rings, I can beat Emily to the bus and she will never know I skipped out until she is already home, because she rides in the front of the bus and I ride in the back. It was funny, actually, how we became friends; seeing as she is 3 years younger than me. She always sat with that one boy from that weird family, the Kiszkas.

There were three boys and one girl, the one boy that Emily sat with, had just started high school, like her. You would think being friends with freshmen was weird, but Emily was quite mature for her age, in certain ways of course. The Kiszka girl, Veronica or Ronnie, was a grade below me, she was quiet, always had her headphones in and minded her own; I envied that. We had hung out when we were younger, but once high school came we just sort of grew apart. My sister on the other hand, was always drooling over any senior boy who would give her attention, which was most of them. I didn't know why she didn't just drive to school as mom and dad had bought her a brand new car, but ever since meeting whichever Kiszka she was feening over she had ridden the bus. I only sat in the back with her so that I had stuff to make fun of her in the future; not that living with her didn't help. She would try to get with one of the other Kiszka boys, I can't think of his name, there are two, Josh and Jake; I always confuse them because they're identical twins. But it was the one with the shaggy emo hair, which made me cringe every time he passed me in the hallways.
