I released my hand from hers. I then looked down, "I know you think and everyone thinks that I am the devil who is also evil but..", "But what.." Though I wanted people to expect me to be like my father, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. As I was not even in the slightest evil or even devilish at all. "I-I'm none of them..okay..", "Jacob. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring the word up but if people said that about you, I would honestly want to know why. Like to start with explaining to me how you broke all the rules except the dating age twenty-one.."I lifted my head up, "And to note that my mother has told me that devils were just myths. So are you like a myth or something?" I sighed, her mother seemed odd but maybe it's just because she was a divorcee like my mom, "Didn't she also tell you that glowing hearts were also a myth?", "Yes along with finding true love, but that is because she is delusional over her divorce." That explained it. "People only said that because..well not many people know this but me and my father..share the same name.."
I mumbled. I know people in Oakheart are always surprised to know that those who have shared a name, along with a birthday, are never up to anything good. "My father is the one who steals from the banks downtown, he is the one who knows all and sees all. He is the one who breaks all laws..he only gets away with it because he has someone to blame it on..and that someone is his only son...that being me." I hear her scooting close to me.
We sat in silence but not for long, "Is that why everybody hates you in the town, and calls you by that name?" I nodded, "It seems harsh to know that everyone in town hates you without knowing the truth.", "Well, my sister and my mom don't hate me.." She raised a brow, "Ok. What about your father.." the one person I hate talking about, but she had to know eventually.
"From the one who surely likes to blame his son for the crimes, I hardly see him..as he is currently trying to prove to the world about supernatural creatures and their existence..and few believed him and now are his wingman. No pun intended."She laughed slightly, "Have you thought of getting your name changed..or maybe having a new hairsty-"
"I've tried that. As apparently you have to be twenty-seven to get your name changed. And I've dyed my hair black as you saw in the photo of my hair before it was black. So as I was saying, to change myself doesn't help. Literally have gotten a tattoo of an angel wing so I can lead off the chase from the cops.."
I then looked over and made eye contact with her, "When I first saw it I thought it was a devil's wing.." She mumbled as I laughed. At least someone thinks so. I then stopped laughing, "I've tried everything as there's nothing to change..well there was one option but I am not sure if I want to go that far...like literally far." I felt her grab my hand and asked what it was. I held onto her hand.
"What I could do is, I can move away to a new city. I could move to Olympus Hills but that is in the Downtown Oakheart District..but I can't since something is more important..something is in my way of that.","But what can be more important than protecting your name and status? Your sister and your mother? Friends?" I turned towards her and revealed why I couldn't, as I could just see my heart glow the maroon shade.
"Your heart..it's..it's.." I leaned in and kissed her as she had stopped stuttering. I had pulled away after we kissed, and looked at her but she looked away. Did I do something wrong? She had released my hand from hers, "Was I the reason why?" she muttered but before I could speak another sound of a cell phone had rang, and it wasn't mine. "I think it's yours this time.." She laughed nervously, "So are you gonna get that?" I laughed nervously as I then had a smile. "No actually, I don't think so.."
I raised a brow and asked who it was, she mentioned it was Colton. "You know..if you want him to get off your back, you should probably just delete his number or block him if that is easier.." Her eyes widened looking at me weird. "What?", "Yeah you can delete his number and or block him. And yes I know it's har-", "Hard. I know." she frowned as she explained to me that she'd been friends with him since they were kindergarten; and things have gone down the road every second after the visit with Dr. Martens. I did feel bad as I had a friend like that but they left me because of who my father was.
I then asked if she wanted help to ignore and or block Colton's number. She nodded and handed over her phone. "I know the feeling of losing a friend is hard, but honestly he was sort of toxic, like he was backing his car up and almost hit you. He doesn't approve of who you ended up being with for the rest of your life..and..", "And he wanted to lie to my mom and say that we were true lovers even though it would have been a fool's love.." She continued to frown as I pulled her into a hug.
"I'll block his number and delete all photos of him and unfollow him on social media..for now..until he apologizes for his actions. As this will show him not to be cruel to his best friend.." She just nodded as I pulled away and started to do what I said.
Looking through the photos of what her life was like with him, seemed to have sweet moments. I only deleted a few but not all as she shouldn't have to let him go just because of his actions even if they were deadly. I then locked eyes with her and gave her back her phone. "Ok. You're all set.." When I handed it back, she began to spit fire at me with all her questioning thoughts about how it was possible to have no marks or injuries or bruises.
"What are you talking about?", "Why are you laughing..how am I not..you know! Injured?! Haven't broken anything?! No scrapes or cuts?!" Though I felt confused I then knew what she was going off about and just laughed. I smiled, "Ok..first off, take a breath..and don't jinx it. And second; now I know what you are trying to ask about. So remember when you said if devils were only myths but are actually true.." She nodded, "then there are things such as Angels. So speaking of Angels, in fact, rumor has it you're the only one that lives and the only one that ever existed here in Oakheart..even though there are many different types. You're the purest one."
"Like you said to Rose, you're very funny. And I bet there are other girls you've probably kissed and your 'Angel'..or 'Princess' so what makes you then? My devilish charming prince?" She wasn't understanding it, as it wasn't a compliment or a cute nickname, I crossed my arms and gave her a glare. "What? Is it something I said..", "No. Just the way you're processing it, Maya listen to me. You are seriously an Angel. Do you recall any not having broken bones or scrapes or cuts when you were younger, what about always being called a goody-two-shoe, or being a Mama's girl.."
She still laughs but not as hard as all of those things had to be true, "How did you..", "It's everything Angel is..and having those abilities or charms.." She shook her head, "But I still don't believe that I am Angel like what makes you then if your father is the devil..are there different types of devils?"
I nodded. "And so you know you may be as devilish as I don't know for maybe being my charming prince. But by being the Only The Devil who happens to live in Oakheart, Alabama..must make me be the only angel or some different version of one. So answer me this..if your father is one, which one are you..", "I'm considered to be a Traveller's Devil.." she raised a brow, "Ok so what exactly is that..are your wings the type of feathers that prick and kill anyone by a touch."
