Prologue the second: present

Jay's POV

"Target acquired. Releasing water balloon in 3...2...1..." I drew my arm back, aimed, and fired.

Direct hit! Kai got soaked! He spluttered and looked around. I grinned, and aimed at the ninja next to him. "Drop the water balloon. We're supposed to be cleaning, and I get the feeling whoever you hit might ask Cole to make your dinner."

I looked to my left. "Zane, you are such a party pooper. I am cleaning! These babies are filled with soap, not just water." He turned to face me. "I wasn't kidding. Kai's making dinner, remember? He can see it's not Cole, I'm not going to throw water balloons, Lloyd's helping belowdecks with Sensei, and Nya's shopping. That leaves you."

Oh shoot.

"He's talking to Cole. Something about buying him cake if he helps. Cole just nodded. Jay, good luck."

One hour later...

Zane's POV

Jay spat out his food into a napkin and glared at Kai. Kai looked at him innocently. "You threw a water balloon at me, and Cole wanted to help with dinner. It was justified!" Cole smirked. "Also, he promised me cake."

Judging from his sharp intake of breath, Kai had just kicked Cole under the table.
