Kyra's POV

"A few months ago, I started having these really weird, vivid dreams about battling weird...things. I would see everything from above. Later, I'd find out I had a very hard time waking up. My tutor was amazed when I slept through twenty minutes worth of alarm clock noises." I laughed to myself, remembering her reaction. "I'd have these weird scratches and bruises- like last night- that I couldn't explain. I was living at a boarding school when they started. Anyway, my teachers thought I had been getting into midnight fist fights, so they kicked me out.

"The dreams just got more and more vivid. I'm sorry about my reactions when I saw you guys for the first time, it's just..." My voice trailed off. No, no, no! Tell them, Kyra. Let somebody know what you've been going through. I took a deep breath as everyone looked at me expectantly. "It's just, you guys were in them. You especially," I said pointing to Zane. I continued. "I finally tried to prolong the dream, and you guys took me to...somewhere. I don't know where, I woke up too soon. Anyway I finally realized three things about these dreams: A, they were real, B, I wasn't human in them. I could fly. Unless I grow wings in my sleep, I doubt I'm still a human when I have them. I finally learned to control the shift, and what it turned me into." I took a breath and locked eyes with Zane. My next two words were going to change everything.

"A falcon."

Everyone's eyes widened as I gave Zane a half-smile. "C, somebody controls me in these dreams. Zane, I think you call it 'Falcon Vision'. A few days ago, I shifted mid-dream and fell through a huge forest from about fifty feet up. I tried to retrace my footsteps back to where I started from. You guys have good healers, or no way you'd still be alive. I tried flying, but I'm not very good and I kept getting beat up. I finally got here last night...and that about covers it. Well, except for a few more things..."

I got up and walked over to Zane amid everybody's stares."May I please do a really quick mechanical adjustment? You've got people to beat me up on standby." He opens and closes his mouth like a fish, finally peeping out, "Go ahead."

I open up his chest panel and grab the gear located directly behind his memory switch. "This is going to hurt. Do I still have permission?" He looks at me and nods, his eyes hard. So I pull a stray wire that kept the gear from turning fully out of the way, and it starts rolling, rusty with misuse.

Zane's POV

I'm still trying to process what I've just been told when I feel an agonizing pain in my chest. I look down and glimpse my memory gears turning, even though I remember all of my old life and they have no reason to. Then I black out and find myself in a different world: my memory. I'm lying in a hospital bed with a girl standing over me. She's crying, and I get a glimpse of blue, tear stained eyes before she wipes them dry. There's a weak heart monitor next to her and I realize three things: I'm human, that's Kyra, and I'm dying. Then, I'm in a bed with Dr Julien and Kyra looming above me. They both grin when I open my eyes, and for some reason, her eyes are yellow. Then it flashes to me holding Kyra's broken body and begging Dr Julien to make me forget everything. He adjusts my gears, puts me in bed, and promises me it'll be gone in the morning. Then my other memories begin playing, beginning with me as a blank slate.

My eyes burst open, and I look at Kyra.

My sister. My brave sister, my beloved sister, my human and dead sister.

Who smiles, opens up a small panel on her chest, and shows me a steel heart amongst her human tissue.
