As we pull out from the emotional hug she said

Lady: Oh, dear you have been through a lot. I can't take away all of your pain but I assure you from now on you will never miss on a mother's love. I can't be your maa but I can be your maasi.

[ in India precisely in Hindi speaking regions maa is the word used for mother and maasi is the word used for mother's sister or someone who is like a mother figure to the speaker]

y/n: o—oh---oka—ay, M---maa—si. (I hesitantly said)

she bust out in adoration. I could sense the love she wanted to give me but held back so as to not make me uncomfortable. I noticed I pulled her in a hug. She pecked my forehead and caressed my hair as I reluctantly spoke-

y/n: maasi, (she hummed) I am really glad to have met you, but I need to go home. Or else.......... They might harm me. (I let my tears flow)

she frowned.

Maasi: y/n, beta, you don't need to go back to that hell. You can stay with me. I promise to protect you, my daughter.

y/n: I wish I could. But it was my father's last wish.

**flashback

Dad: y/n dear, I don't know why, but feel uneasy. Mind helping dad?

y/n: sure pa.

Dad: y/n, can I ask you a favor? (He said as I massaged his broad shoulders, my safe place)

y/n: anything for my pa. (I chuckled at my comment as he smiled at my behavior.)

Dad: dear, promise me you would never leave your mom, no matter what. Promise me to protect her on my behalf in my absence. Your brother is careless. Though he is older, you are wiser.

**flashback end

He said as if he foresaw something, something bad happening or as if he knew that he would be leaving.......... Forever.

(I said as I started sobbing again at my last memory of his.)

y/n: maasi, this was his last request to me. I have to fulfil my promise.
