I woke up with in the middles of the night with my brother shining a torchlight directly in my face. His goofy smile was shown, and he almost scared the daylight out of me that I would've woken mum up with my screaming if Jungkook didn't cover my mouth with his hand immediately. He pointed his finger upwards, gesturing to the rooftop and I nodded, my eyelids still dropping every now and then but I tired my best to force them open.
I groaned at the sudden light while we were walking as Jungkook shone the flashlight into my direction and I winced, covering my eyes with my hands defensively. He held onto my hands in case I would fall as my pyjama pants weren't exactly short. We made It to the rooftop and I noticed sleeping bags laid on the floor for us to sleep on.
"Wouldn't it rain?" I asked, still tired and rubbing my eyes.
I could feel him rolling his eyes upon hearing my comment and dragged me down onto the comfortable sleeping bags.
By now, I was wide awake and sure I wouldn't be able to fall asleep again. I stared up at the night sky and say the stars shining brightly. It was a beautiful sight to take in, probably one of the best sights I had ever seen in my life, even after all these years of looking up at the same sky with Jungkook by my side.
I couldn't express in words how grateful I was to Jungkook. He took care of me when my mum couldn't. he made sure I ate well and he home-schooled me despite his lack of knowledge. He would go to the library and stay there for hours, just to know he was familiar for what he was about to teach me. While our mum continued abusing him, he never gave up hope. Cause he always knew, even with my cancer, I could strive onwards and achieve more in my life. Sure, we were por, but that didn't stop us from doing anything we liked.
I slipped my hand into his and turned my head towards him, only to find him sleeping already.
I smiled a little. He deserves so much more, and the only one who could see that, was me.
The next morning when Jungkook went to work and mum went to the bar, I sneaked out of the house, going to shops here and there, hoping to find a job.
An employee accepted me to work as a waitress in a cat café. At least now I had a similar job as Jungkook. I began work the next week after school and this became a routine for me. Jungkook knew about ti but warned me not to overwork myself and I abided by his words.
The next few days whenever there were no customers around, I would be playing with the cats, especially one cat that I grew fond of. It was light orange with white stripes/spots around its body. I gave it a name since the manager allowed me to do so as the previous employees didn't give any of the cats name. I named that cat doongie.
As I was sitting down behind the counter playing with doongie, the bell at the door ringed and I got up in a hurry, causing doongie to jump off my lap in a hurry. I muttered an apology to her as if she would understand me and I greeted the customer.
To my horror, when I looked up, it was Minho in a white and black sweatshirt tucked into his blue jeans and he was staring right into my soul (basically I am you dance practise outfit)
We stared at each other for a moment in absolute shock till he cleared his throat and made his way in front of me.
"Dark chocolate mocha." He said, pretending he didn't notice me.
It was if someone had hit me with a pan that Rapunzel used to hit Rider with. That jerk! Does he really not notice me? I kept a calm face and asked, "Anything else?"
He shook his head and got out his wallet to pay. After he'd pay, he went down and sat on a chair interacting with the cats and smiling. I stared at the boy weirdly. Lost in confusion, like an illusion, I turned around and started making his mocha. Even doongie approached him and doongie was a really sensitive cat. I placed the cup on the table and I heard him mutter a thanks before directing his attention back to the cats. I picked doongie up and sat on the chair opposite him stroking doongie softly as she purred and mewed.
"Does it have a name?" Minho suddenly asked, looking at me and doongie.
I nodded, "Doongie."
He nodded and went back to the cats again, as if I didn't exist at all. I mentally scoffed and growled at him but I put doongie back on the ground when another customer came in. Minho finally left after interacting with the cats and finishing his drink which took him about an hour to do so as he didn't seem like he wanted to let go of the cats.
I sighed after a day's work and the manager gave me my daily payment. I got about $50 for working and $50 for taking care of the cats and an extra bonus of $40 for keeping the café clean and spotless as always. I closed the café, happy with my dad and my payment I earned. I whipped out my phone and dialled Jungkook and sent him my location, telling him we'll eat out today. He finally arrived and we went to eat tteobokie and fried chicken which were our favourite foods.
He happily munched on his fried chicken while I slurped up my tteobokie in five minutes. I wiped the sauce with a napkin and leaned back against my chair, satisfied with my meal. I beamed with pride as I watched Jungkook eat fried chicken which he had not been able to eat for years. We would always eat either a small cup of noodles to share or a sandwich that was barely able to split in half for us to share if we wanted to fill our stomachs. Thus, our stomach were always a quarter filled. But today, Jungkook and I, were in a restaurant, eating warm food that satisfied our craving that we had have for years.
