I felt like droning off as Mrs Soo kept explaining about the topic of human body. We're not in middle school, I though.
I rested my chin on my hand as I stared at the board, heaving out a disappointed huff. Minho turned his head towards me and turned back. After what felt like hours, she finally ended her lesson and the class started rushing out like a pack of hungry wolves.
I skipped out and noticed Hyunjin waiting for me, leaning against my locker and looking at his phone.
I eyed him, head to toe. He looked like a model, and his visuals...I snapped myself out of my thoughts as I approached him.
"Whatchu doing here?" I asked.
"Wanna grab lunch together with me and the boys again?" he asked, showing a gentle smile.
"Sure, why not?" I said simply, it was not like I had anyone else to sit with.
Unfortunately, I did not have any money with me. I still followed Hyunjin to sit with the guys but as they ate, I stared at them gobbling happily while my stomach craved for the taste of eating a proper meal.
Suddenly, a tray was pushed under my nose. I looked up; it was Minho. I raised an eyebrow.
"I can hear your stomach from here, eat up." he said emotionlessly. He walked off without a word and I ate like he told me so. What was up with this guy?
I wiped my mouth politely with a napkin once I had finished eating and excused myself from the table, hoping to find Minho to thank him. The food he gave me was barely untouched and it looked like he skipped his meal so I could eat instead.
However, he was nowhere to be found. Is he a magician? I frowned but as school ended, I noticed Minho wasn't showing of his classes. Was he even in school? Still lost in my thoughts, I sat on the bench and waited for Jungkook to come.
"Who are you waiting for?" a voice suddenly asked. It was Seungmin.
"My brother." I said, smiling at him.
"Oh? You have a brother?" he asked.
"Ye-" I was about to say but a shout cut off my sentence.
"Yah! Sena-ah!" Who else could it be...Jungkook.
I groaned and got up, making my way towards him. "That's your brother?" Seungmin asked, eyes widened. I nodded and replied, "Unfortunately."
Jungkook scowled at me, and I stuck a tongue out playfully. "Bye Seungmin!" I said, waving before leaving with Jungkook. The walk back home was filled with laughter. Sometimes, I wished we were always like this, wherever we were, whether we were home or outside. But the main question was, why did dad leave mum. Because of my birth? Was I an accident?
I brushed off my thoughts as we stood in front of the entrance of a shabby flat. Jungkook slowly tuned the key inside the hole, and he turned the doorknob. Once we step foot into the house, alcohol fills up my nose and all we saw were glass shards on the floor, scratches on the door, cabinets were broken off its hinges and were all on the floor. It was as if an animal was left loose in an apartment. Just looking at the state of the house made me wanna cry. After checking she wasn't home, we set off to start cleaning the house.
I swept the floor while Jungkook fixed the cabinet doors back on its hinges. After finishing, I noticed a few dollar bills on the counter. I know it was wrong to steal, but mum had hardly cooked for us, yet gave us water. Was stealing a few bills just to buy a proper meal for Jungkook and I going to affect her. I picked up the notes, but we were low on income, the apartment needed its monthly rent and stealing a few notes would severely affect us. I sighed and placed it back down.
Should I get a job? I thought randomly. I shook my head and continued to sweep the shards of glass into a trash bag and I threw it down the rubbish chute.
I brushed the dust off my hands and stared at our hard work. I glanced at my watch on my right wrists and realised it was dinner time. Thanks to Minho, I didn't feel hungry at all, but I was sure Jungkook did. I searched and scanned around the house, luckily being able to find a fresh loaf of bread, tomatoes, lettuce and ham that haven't been expired yet. I quickly made a sandwich for Jungkook and served it to him.
After eating half, he passed the rest to me, but I declined, telling him I had a full meal for lunch and he looked at me with a surprised look and I smiled, shoving the other half into his mouth, almost making him choke. He shot a glare towards me, but his eyes softened and ate the rest of the sandwich happily.
"Eat up," I mumbled.
"You're the only one working for this family, you need to have energy." Sometimes I felt really bad, he had to give up his youth just to make sure I had an education, I had food but yet it was never enough. Mum would often refuse to help and use most of the money Jungkook earned to buy alcohol to drink away her thoughts about dad. It saddened me most of the time. If mum didn't care about dad and just moved on with her god damn life, she would've been able to pay our monthly rent and offer us food, we'll be able, eating like a family. But no, the rent has been chasing us and Jungkook had to pay for it, or worse we had to steal money back from mum. And my hospital bills were not yet fully paid.
"Are you planning on stealing the money? You'd better not be." Jungkook, eyeing me cautiously.
"Of course not!" I exclaimed, pushing the money away from me.
Jungkook looked at me suspiciously and nodded, washing the dishes.
