You carry Mason, Dan's 3 year old son, on your hip and dance along to Check Yes Juliet by We the Kings. You, Dan and Phil had been friends years before the child's birth, you were always known as auntie y/n. Dan stands in the door frame looking at you with a smile on his face you point and wave "Say hi to daddy, mason!" Mason squeals and waves and then goes back to dancing. You study the child closer he has blue eyes, just like his mother, well like his mother used to.
Mason's mother, Belle, died of cancer when he was just seven months old. She and Dan had only been married two years and since then he's never been quite the same- who could blame him, really.
Phil, who has randomly appeared from his room, comes and joins you. You notice Dan has left where he was standing and Phil just gives you a look. "Would you like to dance with uncle Phil?" He asks extending his arms. Gentely you hand him Mason. You give phil a questioning look as if to say, where has Dan gone. With the toddler on his right hip wiggling along to the beat, Phil quickly turns to his left putting his face towards yours and quietly says "it's a sad day for Dan, he lost Belle today." You nod as Phil turns back to the toddler, "Go ahead. I've got this one." He smiles at you and you walk out of the lounge and walk til you're just outside Dan's room. The door is slightly ajar you push a little further as the door creaks letting Dan know that you were in the room. He sobs softly and beautifully but the tears flow as if he were bawling like a two year old. "She was my whole world, y/n." He states simply looking at a photo of them on their wedding day, you take the opportunity to sit next to him on his bed as he lays his head on your shoulder, "I miss her so fucking much. It's so unfair." He cries silently. You don't speak, as you know he doesn't want you to all he wants is to vent, "she wasn't perfect and she knew that and fuck- I loved that she knew that. It's so goddamn unfair that that beautiful child in the other room won't even have the privilege I had to know that amazing woman inside and out. It's so unfair that he doesn't have anyone to call mummy." He breathes slowly as if to calm himself down. "I hate this." He growls deeply. "He's your little keepsake," you say lightly looking at a confused Dan. "She knew that you wouldn't be able to go on without something to remember her by, so she left you a beautiful, healthy baby boy. She cared about you so much she even gave him her eyes so that every time you see him and tuck him at night and give him kisses and sing him songs and tell him you love him, you'll see her. God knows I see her every time." You smile as tears well up, it was so fucking unfair that a young wife, mum, and best friend was taken from this earth years before she should have been. "You know what hurts the most?" Dan asks rhetorically, "that I am so in love with you and want to give you the world and treat you like a princess and even though I know she told me to move on, I don't know if I know how to or if I ever will." He stares back down at the picture. Taken aback by his words you stare at him, gaping. "I am completely, stupidly in love with you, too Dan," you start, "and if you're not ready I'll wait for you and if you want to start, I'll help you work through everything." You say as he still clutches tight on the picture, "she's always going to be the first and you're always going to love her and hurt over her, but I'm willing to take this shot for us. For you for me for mason- together." You squeeze his hand and he brushes back loose hair and kisses you in a way that made you feel fireworks that you hadn't felt since your first kiss at 13. "Together." He smiled, for the first time in ages he finally seemed like himself. "Is auntie y/n my new mummy?" Mason shouts running into the room as Dan places him on his knee, you can't help but laugh. This was going to be a new adventure and you couldn't wait to get started.
