You sat up quickly and checked the time, half 3 am. Examining the rush of water that woke you, you shake your husband awake. "Dan, it's time!" You squeal as he reluctantly wakes you repeat yourself, "DAN! Its time!" He shoots up with a smile on his face, "seriously?! Right, okay. I'll get your bag out of the closet and we'll be on our way. Could you ring Phil? Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod! (Y/n) we're going to be parents!" He cups your face in his hands and now in a more serious but still loving tone he says "I love you so much." He kisses you and walks to the closet to get your "birthing bag" as all the classes called it--full of the essentials blankets, pads, baby's first outfit, camera. You ring Phil, as he has been at a friend's house during the last weeks of your pregnancy due to your mood swings, who seems just as excited as Dan "Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod! Okay I'll rush out to the hospital right now. Do you need anything?" You laugh at his excitement as the pain is not too bad just yet, "I'm fine, just make sure you bring your camera, too. I want a million pictures!" Phil agrees and then hangs up as Dan comes into the room with a thermos of coffee for him and your bag in his hands. He has the same goofy smile he had on the moment you told him you were pregnant. You look down and rub your belly, "try not to be too painful." You coo and follow Dan into a taxi he has hailed for the two of you.
You meet Phil once you are in the hospital as Dan checks you in, you are then wheeled into your room.
Birth is horrendous.
Never have children!
You squeezed Dan's hand to the right of you and Phil to the left as he occasionally fed you ice chips. Dan smiled and smiled and kept telling you to keep pushing and to breathe and that you could do it. Suddenly there was his first cry. His first beautiful, beautiful cry. You had always laughed when people talked to you about birth and how you instantaneously fall in love, but--God, was it true. The doctors swooped up your baby and cleaned him off as Dan cut the umbilical cord, still smiling like the Cheshire cat. "Well, geez Dan don't smile like that you'll scare him." Phil chuckled as did Dan. "Hello, Zachary. I'm your daddy. I've been waiting for you for such a long time. You have a beautiful mummy and a really weird uncle Phil, I'd stay away from him if I were you, and so many other great people who love you already." Dan rocked your new born son in his arms before handing him to you. You had tears in your eyes as you looked at you precious child and silently thanked whatever higher power there is for your perfect little family--and of course, weird uncle Phil. Who was also crying.
