If you ever were to ask anybody in the town of Beacon Hills, who were most likely to stay together forever. Derek Hale and Axel Reid would be the first names that come up. From the moment they met, they became inseparable. It wasn't possible to see one without the other. Their polar opposites were brought together in harmony. Derek was an athlete who spent his time playing sports and dating girls. Axel, in contrast, spent most of his time in the library pretending not to notice the girls who were fawning over him.
Thus, Axel's absence from Derek for months seemed strange. Their avoidance of each other was noticed by everyone. However, nobody noticed Derek's lingering glance at Axel whenever he wasn't looking. Their biggest fight, which ended their friendship 3 months ago, was never revealed to anyone.

The two never spoke again after the fight.Axel was going to tell him he was sorry about what happened to Paige, but decided against it.
He also heard about the Hale house fire, but never said anything to Derek. Their friends could now see the lingering glances they exchanged among themselves when they thought nobody was looking. There were no doubts that they missed each other. There was something missing from Derek's life: the person he loved, who he could be confidant in, the person he could cry to when times were tough.
Axel missed the person who was there for him when he needed to get away from his father. The shoulder he could cry on no longer existed. There were memories they shared together that he missed. His favorite memory was the flirty banner they used to share.
Every now and then, however, Axel would tell his brother about the person he called his best friend.
When Derek told Peter the story of their memories, Peter finally realized who had stolen his brother's heart.
Now they are both faded memories in each other's hearts.
