Yeji slowly opened her eyes and she found herself sitting comfortably on the chair that's next to Chaeryeong's bed. For a moment, she forgot that she's in the hospital and she waited for Chaeryeong to wake up last night, but she fell asleep. Yeji's entire body was covered with a large blue blanket. Yeji didn't know where it came from, so she just assumed that her girlfriend probably covered her with it while she was sleeping.
Yeji carefully stood up from the chair and put the blanket on the chair. She groaned as she stretched her limbs that were too weak to do anything. She looked at Chaeryeong, who was still lying down. Chaeryeong was still asleep making Yeji let out a sigh. "Ryeong, it's a Saturday so I can stay with you until tomorrow. I want to talk to you, but the doctors probably injected you with some sleeping medicine. I'll go outside, I'll call Ryujin, okay?" she said, but she received no reply from Chaeryeong, only the sound of her quiet inhales and exhales. Yeji forced a smile at Chaeryeong. "I'll go now." Yeji walked away from Chaeryeong.
"Wait."
Yeji paused as Chaeryeong's voice reverberated through her mind. Yeji turned around, walked to the chair that she slept on and sat down. "Ryeong, good morning," Yeji greeted Chaeryeong and smiled.
"Good morning," Chaeryeong said back. "It's kinda hard to move with this neck brace." Chaeryeong weakly chuckled. "Anyways, I was just pretending to be asleep. I really wanted to keep avoiding you and ignoring you, but I thought that it's just too immature and childish. I'm so pathetic," she said.
"No, you're not. And what did you even do to yourself, Chaeryeong? Consuming almost an entire bottle of sleeping pills? Good thing Lia was there when you fell down the stairs or something would have happened to you." Yeji wanted to ask the question her mind firmly holds, but she was hesitating. "....T-tell me honestly, Chaeryeong.... Were you trying to commit suic-"
"No!" Chaeryeong couldn't believe the words that came out of Yeji's mouth. "Why would I do such a thing? I'm still devastated with my love life, but I am not letting the sadness encumber me and eventually turn into depression and develop suicidal thoughts. I just couldn't sleep, that's all. I consumed a lot of pills and I suddenly heard someone knocking at our door, but when I stepped outside of my room, my heart was racing, my head was spinning and my limbs were close to giving up. That's how I fell down the stairs."
Yeji didn't know if Chaeryeong's lying or not. She clicked her tongue while imagining her friend falling down the stairs. It hurt Yeji a lot seeing Chaeryeong in this state. "Alright, but you're good now. Your neck will be fine in a few days, they said." Yeji decided not to dwell on the incident anymore, so she decided to drive across the memory lane and find a few exciting moments she experienced in the past with her bestfriend. "By the way, do you remember when we were in highschool and we snuck out at 3 in the morning and went to my bully's house and keyed her dad's car?"
The memory of Yeji taking Ryujin away is still fresh in Chaeryeong's mind, but Chaeryeong decided to let go of that, because she missed Yeji too, her bestfriend who helped her a lot in the past. "Yeah, I remember that." Chaeryeong smiled. Chaeryeong remembers every detail, the way she scraped the paint of the car with the key with full passion and anger, and how they ran away when they were almost caught by the mother of Yeji's bully. "Do you remember when we vandalized your bully's house with eggs?"
"Yeah!" Yeji said and the two bestfriends laughed. Yeji was close to releasing a tear or two while reminiscing about the past. Back then, she found it hard to imagine she and Chaeryeong fighting over something. They had the most exciting and best friendship ever. The two bestfriends broke up because they fought over Ryujin, but now, it's obvious to Yeji that she and Chaeryeong'll become friends again. "Great memories, right? Highschool was the best. After that, you'll walk through the gates of college where things just get serious. It's hard to have fun at this time and age. I miss the days when it's possible and easy to balance everything." Yeji pouted.
