"Put the boy down!" Hagrid yelled.
"Hagrid, it's me! It's Y/n!"
"I'm sorry about this, Y/n... but you have to give me Harry."
"Hagrid, what are you talking about? He's my Godson..."
"And his Godfather... your boyfriend... just betrayed his parents."
"You can't seriously think I had anything to do with what Sirius did!"
"I don't... but the ministry isn't sure... Look, they are going to be watching you like a hawk, Y/n... but... they won't let Harry stay with you."
I felt my world come crashing down around me as Hagrid stepped closer, placing a hand on my arm.
"I'm sorry... but I have to take the boy... I have to get him out of here." His large hands slipped beneath Harry's head as he took him from my arms and began walking toward the door before turning toward me. "I'm so sorry, Y/n... Truly, I am." With that he left the house, leaving its horrors behind as he flew away on the motorcycle, taking my Godson with him.
From outside I could hear commotion as several muggles gathered, though one voice, in particular, stood out to me.
"Sirius Black betrayed Lily and James!" I heard Peter scream before a loud explosion went off, sending a shockwave through the house. I was knocked back several feet, falling to the floor. I heard maniacal laughter from outside, though I couldn't move my body. A man in all black rushed into the room, though I couldn't see his face.
"No, no, no," I heard him beg as he rushed toward my unmoving body. "Y/n... Y/n, please. Oh, Merlin, no! Not her, please!" he begged, his voice cracking as he scooped my unmoving body off the ground and held me to his chest. "Y/n, I'm so sorry. I never should've left you alone in this house! I never should've told you to stay away from the Malfoys! I never should've left you!" He sobbed into my hair as he held me. Every muscle in my body was screaming for me to wrap my arms around him but they hung, limp, at my sides as I couldn't move them.
"Y/n... i-is that your heart?" He pulled away, looking at my eyes, searching for any sign of life. His fingertips brushed my wrist as he felt for a pulse.
"Oh, thank Merlin." He breathed a sigh of relief as he felt my pulse. "Y/n... darling, are you alright?" He searched my eyes, though he found no life in them. It was as if I had disappeared... slipped away within his arms. "Y/n... come back to me," he whispered, placing a soft kiss on my forehead. It was as if something had clicked within me as his lips pressed against my forehead. I took in a deep breath, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"Y/n? Oh, thank Merlin!" His grip tightened around my body and I buried my face in his chest. "I- I thought I lost you! Don't ever do that again!" His fingers were digging into my skin from how tight he was holding onto me, though I didn't mind the feeling. He held me for a few minutes before pulling away and helping me stand.
"The Ministry doesn't trust me enough to look after Harry and... well... Sirius is probably going to Azkaban."
"He already did. I was hiding outside, waiting until after Hagrid left when I heard the explosion. I came out just in time to see him being dragged away... I'm so sorry, Y/n," Severus replied as he pulled me into a hug.
"Me too," I replied, looking away as I thought of how everything had changed. In a matter of a few hours, my boyfriend had been taken away and my Godson was taken from me. Now, here I stood, in the arms of the man responsible for the destruction, yet, I couldn't help but feel right at home.
...
The next several days were rough. The Ministry questioned me repeatedly about my involvement with Sirius but Severus was there through all of it. They had placed Harry with some muggle relatives, though they wouldn't tell me who. They refused my numerous requests for him to come live with me. "You're on thin ice as it is," I was told. They couldn't lock me away because they had no proof that I had done anything wrong. Severus and Albus repeatedly stuck up for me, saying that I had never shown an interest in being one of Voldemort's minions. It was hard hearing them say all these nasty things about Sirius, though I couldn't bring myself to deny what they were saying. He had betrayed our friends, our Godson... me... and he didn't have any remorse. He was maniacally laughing when they took him away, almost as if he was proud of what he'd done. The Ministry ended up letting me go, stating that they would be keeping an eye on me and I was not to have any contact with Harry until he entered Hogwarts. Albus had also explained the bond of blood charm and how Harry had to be placed with someone who was a blood relative of Lily to keep him safe. Albus was able to get Severus and I a job working for Hogwarts and, when Harry turned eleven, I would be allowed to meet him. Until that time, I was to keep my head down as the Ministry would be watching me very closely.
