"So you and Spencer made up, huh?" Sophia asked from across the table.
I picked at the nachos I was sharing with Dean and Sophia, both of their eyes on me as they waited for my response. "He said he would stop putting me on the back burner."
"And you believe him?" Dean asked, taking a sip of his beer.
I forced myself to look at him after my admittance, thinking back to when I showed up at his doorstep in tears. "He had already made some changes before I started talking to him again. I told him I don't give third chances, so he better make it right this time around."
"Yes girl." Sophia lifted her glass in the air before taking a sip of her own drink. "If you're gonna smash again, at least threaten him first."
I laughed lightly. "He means well, he just tried to juggle everything himself. It was too much for one person."
"Just let him know that if he fucks up again, I'll kick his ass." Dean muttered, a playful grin on his face.
"Get in line." Sophia added.
"I love you guys for wanting to help." I chuckled. "But I'm hoping I wont need it."
"Well if you do, you know where to find us. When's he going to be home, anyway?"
I shook my head at Dean's joking aggression and took another chip off the pile. "A couple of days, probably. You know how it is, he doesn't usually have an exact return date."
"Yeah, I guess that makes sense. You never know when you're going to have a case solved." Sophia replied.
"Yeah, exactly." I muttered back.
What I hadn't told my friends is that Spencer was in Mexico and not working a case at all. I knew it would lead to questions that I just couldn't answer. I had been filled with anxiety since he left for his somewhat secret trip, and it made it even harder that I was only capable of having very little contact with him while he was across the border. He said everything would be fine and that he would be home before we knew it so I shouldn't worry about him. Obviously it wasn't going to be that easy for me, so I called up Dean and Sophia to distract me.
We had been talking over dinner for close to an hour now and as my mind started to wander, something crossed my mind that I hadn't thought about it a while.
"Do either of you guys keep in touch with Miles?" I asked. Both of my friends gave each other a look of confusion before their eyes shifted to me again. "It's fine if you do, I was just curious."
"He's texted me a few times. I usually ignore him, but I've talked to him a couple of times." Dean shrugged.
"Hell no." Sophia scoffed. I had eventually told her about the last conversation I had with Miles, when he confessed that he had been digging into Spencer's past after we became close.
I looked back at Dean. "Did he ever mention why he was looking into Spencer and where he heard those rumors?"
Another thing I didn't tell my friends was that Spencer confessed to me that he was addicted to something in the past. He wasn't now, and that's all they really needed to know. So I told them he wasn't a drug addict. It wasn't hard for them to believe considering Miles's past and the fact that Spencer was an FBI Agent.
"He didn't say, but I'm sure it's just because he was jealous. I don't think it would be too difficult to get information on anyone, he has a lot of connections from his job." He replied.
"Yeah, you're right." I nodded. "It just gives me the creeps that he was looking into Spencer's personal life like that."
"Well he's obviously proven that he's unstable." Sophia pointed out.
