Chapter Three: Restless Nights

Roman had a hard time sleeping. He wanted to, he wanted to skip through all of the thoughts that went through his head at night. But every day was night in space anyways, right? Instead, sleeping was a set part of the cloak on board that said it was so, and Roman chose to believe it. If vaey stayed up too late, Roman knew he was bound to talk to Logan. Logan, despite just being an AI onboard, didn't do a whole lot. Well, that was a lie, but Roman wasn't into technology or anything so it wasn't like vaey could name every single thing it did. And vaey couldn't even talk to Logan without risking waking up Janus! This whole thing was a curse on him and his stupid insomnia.

Vaey took the pillow out from underneath vaeir head and softly screamed into it, still trying not to wake the person sleeping in the bed next to vaem. He placed the pillow back and turned to his side, looking at Janus. Janus always looked so mad or disappointed. But now they just, like they only needed to exist and not terrorize anyone. Peaceful almost? God, Roman knew that they would hate all of these thoughts, but he didn't really want to get rid of it.

But now it was getting creepy so Roman flipped to be facing the other way. It took many hours for him to sleep. He just wanted to get the mission statement vaey made with Patton complete. It would take a longer time than Roman wanted it to be, huh? Hopefully worth it though? God, it had to be. Roman would do anything for his family. And that meant a lot more to him than it did to the people who never knew how much vaey cared before vaey were able to express it. Uuggghhhh, his thoughts were getting all sentimental, it was time to turn on music really quietly and hope that Janus wouldn't wake up or get mad!

Roman turned on the music, closed his eyes, and took a slow breath.

Virgil was really starting to freak out. Xe had to find a way to kill Deceit, who turned out to be the chef 'Janus' on this ship without causing xir to be attacked as well, and Virgil promised to fix the engines of the ship?! Well, xe had done things like that before, but never on like, an actual moving ship! Usually ones that could land on the planet and be fixed without risking everyone on board suddenly dying because no one would actually BE ON THE SHIP. This was bad, this was really bad. Virgil took a deep breath and looked out the window. How late was it? It was hard to tell, being in space and all.

But xe still wondered about it. It was late though, however late that might be. If Virgil wanted to even attempt doing what xe promised, sleep would be a nice bonus. Virgil laid down on the unfamiliar bed in a new place in the universe. What should xe do? Janus, aka Deceit, was supposed to be really dangerous; what were they doing playing chef on a half baked ship crew that didn't have a mission? Virgil pulled the blanket over xirself and sighed. This was definitely one of the nicer places xe had stayed before, but it felt a lot more awkward than just passing out in a motel or bar would be.

What was the plan tomorrow? If xe was successful in fixing the engines, then hypothetically, the ship could start going out to different galaxies again and there would be less limitations. Virgil could... go anywhere... But that was only going to be after xe managed to kill Janus. Someone hired xir to kill them and that someone has a very bad side that Virgil didn't want to face. But xe could figure that out later, right?

First, the engines. Second, getting the ship to land somewhere. And last, kill Deceit and leave. Easy. Probably... Hopefully. Virgil really needed this.

Roman was probably the most restless sleeper that Janus had ever met. And that said a lot, because they had to sleep next to multiple different roommates and... others for years. But Roman? Just wouldn't calm down. As soon as Janus was pretty sure vaey was asleep, they sat up to look at him. The movements had woken them up, and Janus would be pissed if they weren't at least a little worried. The world wasn't kind to Roman, and even though they didn't know what he had been through, it was probably way too fucking much. That was a guarantee. Janus rolled their eyes. Patton's cheesy language was getting into their brain, disgusting. They had definitely lived with the two for way too long. And still didn't know what was happening.
