The airy whistle of a plane taking off was nothing new at the Vetter City airport. The sky was a bleak gray, and the air was brisk as citizens entered and exited the building like clockwork. Taxis littered the street that bordered the airport's entrance as newly arrived individuals eagerly awaited a ride that could bring them into the city. From those with multiple suitcases to those with only a backpack, everyone was intent on reaching their destination. One of these travelers was an 18-year-old girl. She had long frizzy brown hair in a relaxed afro, light brown skin, and soft, light purple eyes. She wore a crop top long sleeve jacket with a white crop top underneath it, in addition to her baggy, multicolored striped pants and purple and white high-top sneakers. She wore a purple backpack and in her right hand was the handle of her suitcase. She waved her arm in the air to flag down an approaching taxi. As it pulled up, she reached into her pocket and grabbed her vibrating phone.

"Hi, Dad... yeah, I'm here at the airport... there weren't any problems with getting my luggage or anything like that... yeah... I'm getting into a taxi now and I'll be at the house to unpack later... yeah, Dad, I'll be fine on my own, it's only a few weeks... yes... yeah, I know I'll call if I need anything... here's the taxi, I gotta go... I'll text you later... love you too... bye."

The smell of exhaust filled the air as the driver pulled up. He stopped, popped the trunk, and exited the car.

"Oh, don't worry about my luggage. I got it," said the girl as she effortlessly tossed her large suitcase into the trunk.

"Wow, usually the passengers want me to handle their stuff... you an athlete or something?" asked the driver.

"Haha, nope, I get that a lot, though," she answered as she closed the trunk with a slam. The two entered the car and it began to take off. The driver used the car's horn to maneuver out of the flow of traffic. The girl took off her backpack, reached in, and handed the driver a piece of paper with an address written on it.

"You new around here, ain'tcha?"

"Oh, uh yeah, I'm from Australia, but my dad and I moved here because his job was relocating."

The car merged onto a highway and began to drive down it. Despite the speed, the ride felt smooth and controlled. The city's skyline was precisely as it looked online. The towering skyscrapers and buildings filled the city as boats could be seen traveling on the water nearby.

"Australia huh... don't they got giant bugs and whatnot?"

"Hahaha, that's what everyone thinks... we only have giant spiders."

"Wait, really- oh haha, very funny. Vetter ain't got any giant bugs or anything like that, so sorry if you're a little uncomfortable here... city's got enough problems as it is."

The car slowed down, exited the highway, and turned before entering downtown. Stores and shops filled the sides of the streets as the sidewalks were packed with people. From food stands to clothing to toys for kids, it was all here. As the car entered traffic, a nearby alleyway caught the attention of the driver.

"Wow, I didn't expect this. It's so lively and busy here. The videos I saw online were definitely toning the grandiosity of the city down. Also, uh... what did you mean by the city having its problems?"

"Well, since you're here, I guess I can give you the rundown. Look to you right, yeah down that alley, you see those guys?" he asked, pointing his thumb towards the window. From the safety of the car, the girl saw three men in an alleyway. They were dressed in dark black jackets with a prominent red symbol on the back of them. It looked like the letter 'C' mirrored so that two of them were intersecting, with a heart in the center of each 'C'. They were kicking what looked like someone on the ground before they reached into their pockets, took items out. And right before her eyes, the victim on the ground spit up a dollar as if he had swallowed it. But that wasn't all. He continued to vomit up more coins and bills like an ATM machine. The assaulters looked down, laughed and gathered up the change before bolting deeper into the alleyway.
