Having her own family was a dream Satyavati gave up decades ago after Hera left her scarred and broken. But in some untouched corner of her heart the roots of that dream remained alive. Even Satyavati didn't realize that till the good news settled in her.
Surely, Devjani was her family. Sayani was too but to have an offspring with the woman she loved; Satyavati couldn't even imagine that three months ago. Everything was going on so fast that she was loosing control.
From anticipating whether she should make a move to getting proposed by the girl she fell for, from denying her underlying love to accepting it, from being master to lover and finally fiancee, from having no exact future plannings to sharing the burden of starting a family; Satyavati felt like her tranquil life had been devastated by a tornado she never saw coming. Not that she had a complain, she had obviously felt way better about her body and her overall existence in the past months than she had ever felt about herself before.
If anything, she wish somebody like Tasha had come into her life earlier. But she also knew, if anybody else before Tasha would come into her life, things probably would not be the same. Tasha was one of a kind. She was worth the wait. She was worth starting a family with. What she had with Tasha Satyavati couldn't imagine with anyone else.
That night on coming back Satyavati didn't tell Devjani or Sayani anything about the pregnancy. The next day she took Tasha to Mallika's chamber and got her properly checked. When all reports came clean Satyavati was finally relived and announced the pregnancy to Dev and Sayani that night during dinner.
Devjani and Sayani were equally excited as Satyavati at the revelation. By the end of dinner they had already discussed a complete nursery set up, came up with a thousand names for the baby and planned to prepone the marriage within the next month.
Tasha was blushing the entire time silently.
That night when Satyavati turned the bed lamp off and pulled Tasha closer into a hug under the cover Tasha sighed lightly.
"What's up?", Satyavati stroked Tasha's hair.
"How I'm going to explain everything to my friends now?", Tasha asked softly.
Satyavati was taken aback by Tasha's innocent question for a moment before the reality dawned on her.
She was selfishly thanking the earth for giving her a chance at parenthood with the woman she loved from the moment she got the news. She was basking in a happiness she long forgot she was thirsty for. She was making plans for telling her friends the grand news, celebrating with her family every moment. In between everything she remained completely oblivious to how Tasha might be coping up with the unexpected revelation.
To the world Tasha was still a teenager, a bachelor not really eligible to marry yet. She was a student with a career to focus on. She was enrolled in an University which had a bad reputation of having a conservative and homophobic environment. Besides, Tasha wanted to come out to her friends so bad. How would she even explain the sudden pregnancy to them?
Though Satyavati knew Tasha was strong enough to fight any ignorance or hateful comments coming at her, still it would definitely impact her physical and mental health and obviously her studies.
Even if all of those complications could be handled, Satyavati knew, their lives would not be the same with a kid. No matter how mature Tasha was a kid herself. She would be a mother at the age of 19. Her dreams of studying physics, involving in research or to become a teacher would get 10 times harder to achieve with an infant to cater for back at home.
Satyavati remembered how she promised Tasha to be her guide and protector along the way to her dream and here she was taking away her chance at a stable career and a carefree youth just at the age of 19. Satyavati felt guilty.
"Are you scared?", Satyavati asked dryly.
"Not as long as you are with me", Tasha hugged Satyavati tighter.
"I will book an appointment tomorrow", Satyavati sighed.
"Appointment? For what?"
"Abortion", Satyavati's throat became sandpaper, her heart leaped in her chest, her lips felt heavy, corner of her eyes burned as the word casually rolled out her tongue leaving a bitter aftertaste.
Satyavati felt Tasha slipping off her grip instantly. Before she could say another word Tasha switched the bed lamp on. The room flooded in a serene yellow hue as Satyavati averted her gaze from Tasha who was sitting upright on the bed, confusion and hurt etched on every line of her face.
"You didn't just say what I thought you said!", Tasha's voice started quivering. She couldn't believe Satyavati would suggest abortion. Tasha had been studying her reaction since she got the grand news. A smile had never left Satyavati's lips since that night. Abortion was the last thing Tasha expected to hear from her.
"Let's not argue over it babe. We both know we are not ready for a child yet", Satyavati blinked repeatedly to keep the tears gathering around the corner of her eyes from rolling. No matter how much she tried to steady her voice, it still shook as she stated the logics that sounded vain even to herself.
"19 is too young to bear a child. You can't focus on your studies like this. You haven't even started living independently yet. To chain you down with the responsibilities of a child will be selfish of me. Things like this should be taken slow. We can always plan a fam..."
"Babes!", Tasha almost shouted cutting Satyavati in between, "Are you even listening to yourself? What have gotten into you?"
"Sense....probably", Satyavati looked back at Tasha to find salt water pouring down her eyes.
She felt a sharp pain tugging at her heart. She knew exactly what she was talking of. She was talking of their baby. Their sign of love. Satyavati felt helpless, frustrated just at the thought of how casually she suggested abortion but she knew it would be the right decision for Tasha. She may not realize it now but she will, in due time. In due time, Satyavati would probably come in terms with how and why she gave up her first child!
