But despite Alison’s earlier expressions of confidence about her relationship with Paul, much later as it was going into the early hours of the morning, she lay in his bed staring up at the ceiling wide awake, whilst Paul slept soundly next to her.

The conversation with Harvey about his concerns, then running into one of Paul’s ex girlfriends, no matter how brief the relationship had lasted, was now playing on her mind. They just wouldn’t go away, no matter how many times she tried, making her feel a little restless.

It wasn’t that she doubted Paul’s sincerity in his feelings for her, But then she kept thinking back to what a low point his life had reached when they had got together, and wondered if that was one of the main factors that had drew him to her.

He had been disillusioned and bitter about his life, feeling like he was without a friend, and she had come along and tried to help him, so of course he was going to think good things about her, and see her as his saviour in some way.

But now his life was getting back on track and she was here with him in his familiar surroundings, would he start to look at her and see her in a different light?

Coming face to face with Selina, and also having seen pictures of his ex wife Holly she realised these women had style and a certain worldly confidence that she lacked..

These were the kind of women Paul obviously found attractive. Comparing herself to them, she suddenly felt so ordinary and dull.

Yes, Paul had claimed they were no competition to her, and he wanted to be with her, because she was different.

But what if the novelty of that difference wore of through time, the longer he was with her? and he started to realise he had made a mistake.? That in the end what he had felt for her had been no more than a deep gratitude for helping him when he had been in a bad place, and he realised how dull and boring she was compared to all the other women he had in his life?

It had been so different when there had just been the two of them back home on the Island. They had been drawn together because if their unfortunate circumstances.. Paul with his divorce from Holly, and she because of the loss of her Grandmother.

Alison realised that coming here to London was going to be the biggest test of their still fledgling relationship.. The future for her was still full of uncertainties, even more so, after tonight.

Yet she didn’t want to speak them aloud and spoil things, about what might or might not happen in the future between them.

She found cold comfort in the fact that spending this time with Paul now, would probably end up being the making of them or breaking of them. She just hoped it was the latter. She had come to care about him so much, it was getting harder trying to imagine him not in her life.

It gave her an ache in her heart just thinking about it, which was why she closed her eyes and snuggled closer into his bare chest in an attempt to sooth away her fears.

And even though he was still fast asleep, she felt his arms tightening around her, pulling her closer to him, as if he sensed her unease, and he was trying to reassure her everything was going to be fine.

And for now, it was enough so that she eventually drifted off to sleep in his arms, thinking how everything always felt alright, and her worries seem to vanish a lot more easily when he held her and she always felt so safe and secure..
