Seperation

It felt a little strange being back home on the Island, Alison realised a few days after her return.

It was good to see Teresa and her friends and neighbours, there was so much to tell them, even Mickey, who seemed to have resigned himself to the fact he and Alison were never going to get together now.

He was starting to move on with his life, happy enough just to repair their friendship, and he had happily welcomed her home, without giving her any grief about Paul.

She had so much to tell them about her time in London and what had happened in her time away , but decided to leave out most of the recent bad bits because she didn’t want them worrying about her.

Besides it was something she just didn’t want to think or talk about, because she became upset, as it reminded her that was the main reasons she had returned home and was now away from Paul.

Teresa informed her that there was some newspaper reporter sniffing around the island a few weeks previously, asking questions about Alison, but she had send him of

With a good ear bashing telling him to mind his own business and that he was not welcome.

Alison just wished she had been there, to witness it for herself.

But now she was back she found a new appreciation of the solitude the Island had to offer, after the craziness of London and the last week there, it was what she needed.

The only big drawback was being away from Paul again

Even though she was glad and relieved to get away from all the hassle surrounding him at the moment with the media, she was already missing him like crazy.

It been really hard when they had to part, and say goodbye at the at the airport.

on the morning she had left. But the both of them manage to put on a brave face under the circumstances..

They kept telling themselves that after all, it wasn’t like it would be forever.

Paul would be occupied now, appearing in various shows and doing interviews for the last series of his tv show. Even though his heart wasn’t really in it, but he was under contract and had to fulfil his end of it, by promoting the show.

His family were going to video tape his appearances on various chat shows and send them to Alison to watch, which she was grateful for. That way she could keep up to date with what was going on, and also it would be just nice being able to see him in the flesh, even if it was only on a televison screen.

Alison tried to get back to some sort of previous normality before she had left with Paul, returning to help Teresa in the bakery, catching up with others what had happened since she left, taking long walks along the beach.

But it didn’t feel quite the same anymore, she didn’t feel the same sense of contentment.

Even though she didn’t exactly welcome the crazy media fuelled lifestyle that she had experienced in London, at the same time, she realised that her old life in the Island was not exactly what she longed for either.

She was torn, not sure exactly where she fitted in anymore. Her relationship with Paul had changed her, and her outlook in life, and now he was the most important thing to her.

Now she found herself spending her hours pondering about her future, which was all hanging in the air at the moment, much to her frustration. She couldn’t move forward and she couldn’t go back.

It was starting to get her down, but the next time Paul phoned her late that evening, his news brightened her up a little.

The good thing now, was when he talked about his family or his friends or resturaunt staff, she now had a clearer picture of what was going on, as she had met them all personally, so knew whom he was talking about, it made her feel more part of his life back in London despite the distance between them.

“You might happy to know that all that heat from media crap has probably shifted away from me at last, now they have discovered who the real father of Holly’s baby is” Paul informed her.

“Oh, how did that happen?” Alison enquired “I thought you were not going to say anything, though I don‘t blame you if you did” she hurriedly added

“I was very tempted, believe me” Paul replied, “But it wasn’t my doing. Apparently one of Holly’s other female co stars had suspicions about her affair with the guy, and leaked it to the media, and all the interest has turned on him and Holly, wanting to know if it is true”

“Ouch!” Alison winced, imagining the frenzied fun the media were going to have running with story and speculation. The people she felt sorry for was the man’s wife and family who would be caught up in it all as well. But at the same time a great sense of relief washed over her that it meant they would hopefully leave Paul alone now.

“Do you think he will admit to being the father of her child?” she then asked

“I have a feeling Holly will give him little choice now to deny it. No doubt she will see the pound signs flashing in front of her eyes, if she sells the story about her steamy affair, and she is getting all the publicity out of it as well,” Paul replied, “God, I can’t believe I actually was happy to be married to that woman!” he then admitted in disgust.

“Well at least you have escaped her clutches” Alison replied, “And even better now all this is out in the open, at least your name and reputation has been vindicated. You are no longer the horrible husband, and the so called uncaring father that the papers and magazines were happy to brand you”

“Yeah, that is a big load of my shoulders,” Paul admitted, “Though the press are still pestering me a little about my knowledge on the affair, But the last thing I want is to be drawn into it, so Harvey has released a statement making it clear the only thing I am interested in is talking about my TV series, and I have no interest or the inclination to talk about my ex wife and what she got up to”

“That is a good idea” Alison happily agreed, “Perhaps you can finally get all this behind you once and for all”

“Hopefully that will be the case. all I want to think about now, is getting you back with me,” he then told her “Its unbelievable the impact you made in your short stay here with me, the staff at the resturaunt keep asking after you, and they are also very protective and loyal to you, more than me” he laughed, “when anyone from the media show up asking questions about us. They let me know, so I can show them out the door”

Alison found herself chuckling over this “Ack, that is so good of them, be sure to let them know I appreciate it.” she replied

“I will. They ask after you all the time, wondering if you will be back. I answer them truthfully that I don’t know. I still feel bad that you got caught up in all that shit when you where here, and I don’t want to put you through that again if I can help it. I don’t want to lose you Ali. I couldn’t bear that, and even though I miss you, I would prefer a long distance relationship with you, than have none at all” he confessed bleakly

“Oh Paul,” was all she could reply, overwhelmed with the love she felt for him there and then, and just wanting to be held in his arms so badly, it hurt.

“I want to be with you more than anything else too” she then admitted, “And even if it means putting up with the media intrusion, I will learn to deal with it with your help, we will figure out a way to make it work” she insisted “ being back here, its made me realise a few things too, and I just know my life belongs with you now. I can’t be happy anywhere else, I miss you so much”

“You don’t know how happy I am am to hear you say that,” Paul replied, “It makes me more determined to find a way to be with you, and make this work right for both of us"

“Good that’s is all I needed to hear” Alison told him happily

A.N:  As you can probably tell, I am drawing this story to a close another chapter should do it...yay!!

But never fear ..I got another story up my sleeve thats been simmering in my brain these last few months.. but as it will be brand new it will probably take me longer to upload as I don't even know how far I will get with it,  I will be looking forward to your feedback as it is on untested waters, unlike my other stories up here
