Chapter 7 Princess Rohan

Rohan eagerly opened his new book from Gran Gran. His eyes grew as he stared at the sparkly words on the book, "Princess of the Southern Air Temple." Rohan opened the book and stared at the words, and sighed "Ill ask Jinora to read this to me." Rohan thought to himself as he jumped off his bed.

Rohan walked outside to find Jinora meditating with Kai. Rohan sighed and walked away hoping to find someone to read to him.

Korra sat at the dock pulling the waves back and forth. Korra was surprised to hear running down the dock and turned her head to see Rohan running towards her.

"KORRAAAA!" Rohan screamed as he ran down the dock to Korra.

Korra smiled, "Hey Rohan." She wrapped an arm around him. "What's up?"

Rohan smiled and held up his book, "Can you read this for me?"

Korra took the book from Rohan, "Princess of the Southern Air Temple."

Rohan shook his head in excitement, "pleaseeee korraaa I can't read yet."

Korra smiled, "Alright then."

Rohan smiled and sat next to Korra on the dock.

Once upon a time there was a girl named Yun. Yun was princess of the southern air temple and she was the most beautiful princess of all the other air temples. Yun was also the most graceful airbender in the southern air temple receiving her tattoos at a very young age.

Rohan jumped with excitement as Korra read. "She was a master?"

Korra smiled, "Yes and you will too someday." She rubbed his head and looked down at the book and continued reading.

Princess Yun sat in the temple one day meditating but could not concentrate while the little air bending children were playing outside.

Princess Yun looked up at her father, "Why can't I play outside with the other children?"

Her father sighed "Yun you can't go outside, the world is a dangerous place for a princess like you...especially like you."

Yun sighed and stared at her left arm missing a hand. Yun was born like this but she could do anything without her hand as she pleased.

Yun got up and left the room to find her best friend Mea.

"What?! She didn't have a hand?!" Rohan looked at his own hand in amazement.

"Rohan anyone can bend no matter whats wrong with them." Korra set her arm on Rohan's shoulder. "I've seen people waterbend without hands. I've seen people who can firebend with their mind. And Opal's grandma, Toph she was blind but was the best earthbender. Bending is a gift Rohan but some people have to learn bending a different way. "

Rohan understood and smiled, "That's so cool! People bending like that without hands or being blind."

Korra smiled back, "Yeah, it is. Now lets keep reading."

Yun walked into the temple courtyard to find her friend Mea playing pai sho with Master Barha.

Master Barha smiled at Yun and called her over, "Hello Yun. "

Yun smiled back and took a seat next to Mea. "Hello Master Barha, hi Mea."

Mea smiled, "I think I'm gonna win this time!" She pushed a piece forward.

Master Barha smiled "You win Mea."

Mea smiled, "Alright!"

Yun congratulated Mea and looked at Master Barha, "Can you talk to my father? He won't let me play with the other children." Yun hung her head down.

Master Barha gave a small frown, "Yun I can't stop what your father wants for you." Yun sighed. "But I can talk him into it, if I were there watching you."

"Master Barha...why does he think I can't do anything? I can do anything even if I am missing my hand! It's not fair Master Barha! I'm not a helpless child, I'm a strong airbender. Why can't he see that?" Yun stared at the ground and sighed.

"That's not fair Korra!" Rohan said in disbelief.

"I know Rohan." Korra placed her hand on top of Rohan's head.

Before Rohan could say anything Meelo came running down the pier.

"ROHAN! DAD SAYS WE HAVE TO PRACTICE COME ON!" Meelo screamed running towards Korra and Rohan.

"Okay, first off stop being loud Meelo." Korra sighed and flicked his forehead.

Meelo flinched, "Sorry Korra...but dad wants Rohan."

"That's fine." Korra looked down at Rohan, "I promise we can finish the book Rohan."

Rohan just smiled and nodded, "Okay Korra!"

Rohan and Meelo walked down the pier side by side. "What were you reading with Korra Rohan?" Meelo asked.

"Princess of The Southern Airtemple!" Rohan said with a proud tone in his voice. "I want to be like Princess Yun!"

Before Rohan could say anything else Meelo began laughing. "You want to be a what?! A princess?! Are you serious?!" Meelo continued laughing until his sides began to hurt.

Rohan stared at his brother with a confused and hurt expression, "...what's wrong with that? She's an airbending master! She can bend without one hand! She's so cool Meelo!"

Meelo drew a shaky breath and gave a small giggle, "Yeah but she's a girl. You can't be a girl Rohan, if you're a boy."

"Yes I can!" Rohan yelled at his brother defensively.

"Nope. You can't. You are a boy Rohan. Not a girl. Get over it." Meelo pushed his finger into his brothers chest.

Rohan just looked down and started to cry, "Fine."

"What's going on here?" Korra asked from behind with her arms crossed over her chest.

Rohan just stood there sniffling staring at the ground. Korra shot Meelo a dirty look and the boy ran as fast as he could away from Korra. "ILL GET YOU MEELO YOU JUST WAIT!" Korra looked down at Rohan and got down on one knee, "What's wrong Rohan?" She placed her hand under his chin lifting it up.

Rohan took breaths with sniffles in between trying to stop his crying, "M-meelo s-said I can't be like Princess Yun...b-because she's a g-girl." Rohan continued crying.

Korra wrapped her arms around Rohan and let him cry on her shoulder. She patted his back softly, "Rohan...listen to me. Who cares if Princess Yun is a girl? She's a great airbender, so what if she's a girl. She can still beat Meelo at airbending."

Rohan stopped crying and gave a small giggle.

Korra smiled, "Rohan you can be anyone you want to be and if being Princess Yun makes you happy...go for it. No matter what Meelo or anyone else says. And if they laugh at you tell me and they can have a chat with me."

Rohan lifted his head and looked up at Korra, "Okay! I'm gonna be an awesome Princess!"

Korra just smiled, "I bet." She set Rohan down, "You better go practice with your dad or he'll be upset."

Rohan just nodded and ran back to the island.

Korra just sighed, "Avatar Kyoshi would beat Princess Yun."
