IT HAD BEEN A couple weeks since Emberly's 18th birthday. She didn't feel any different than when she was 17, 16 and so on and so on. Was she suppose to feel different though? It didn't feel like it.
She could name one thing that change. That was her. Herself. She was proud of how far she came. After going through all she had been through she was still there and didn't manage to let anything hold her back.
In South Crenshaw after just grabbing a cup of coffee from Slasuon's Cafe, Emberly and Spencer walked across the empty basketball court talking. She had her arm lopped through his and her coffee in the other as she listened to Spencer tell her about the news he had received earlier that morning.
"Moving early wasn't something I ever considered, but it's a pretty big opportunity." Spencer says.
"Big? Spencer, this is- this is huge." Emberly tells him. "And I mean to have the head coach make the invite in person? He's got big plans for you." Emberly un-loops her arm from his and walks toward the bench.
Spencer stood there paused starring at her for a second, "I forget sometimes you are dating me, a football player and your friends with a coach's daughter."
Emberly grinned moving her shoulders up and down.
Spencer chuckles sitting down on top of the bench. She leaned against the bench continuing to listen to him speak. "Coach Hudson says I got a chance to start as a true freshman."
"Spencer. This is amazing. What did Coach Dante say?" She asked.
"Nothing... yet. I left him a voicemail. I'm hoping he gets back to me before I got to give Coach Hudson my answer." Spencer informs her.
"You haven't said yes?" Emberly asks with frown. Any other person would have probably said yes with a quickness.
"I wanted to talk to you first." Spencer tells her. "This kind of changes our senior year plans."
He remembered the last time he was made an offer to leave. The last time being when his Dad asked him to okay for Crenshaw. He made the mistake of not telling her about it and she had to hear it from someone else. Not this time though. He wanted her to be the first to know from him.
Emberly plants her hand on his knee leaning over and giving him a kiss. "That was really sweet, but you would be crazy not to take this opportunity."
"I know."
Emberly sighs taking a seat on the bench. "I guess this means you're leaving in two weeks."
She was supportive of Spencer and she was happy that he was getting this amazing opportunity. It was well deserved and most people would kill to have this. She also did feel sadden by the news too. They just got back together and now he was about to leave.
"You all right?" Spencer places down his cup of coffee looking at her.
"Yeah." She smiled looking up at him. "It's just we just got back together and now--"
