*Author's Note- this poetry deals with religous beliefs. It's totally okay to not accept my beliefs, but I would appreciate if this topic does not become a source of conflicts upon everybody's religous beliefs. Everyone is free to choose the way they preach and should not be judged just by the knowledge of their relation and devotion to god !!

I see you as a ray of hope & faith
And they see you as a rule to follow
Who are you? I've been wanting to know
Cause this pressure is making me hollow

They want me to sit & sing your prayers
In the words I could never recite
Why can't I just befriend you O Lord
And go spared for not preaching it right

"I should learn the family's culture" they say
But why can't I choose my own
'Cause I feel cherished when I listen to my heart
And share my times of gay and mourn

I can't just keep lying to myself
That I'll try & stay devoted to an idol one day
Why can't I chose myself for once O Lord
And be a tad bit selfish for the time I'll stay

I did my best when I was just a calf
But thought it better to speak through the heart
Since words that thank & please your dignity
Are better said through the soul from the start

I don't ask those creations of yours
To stop looking for faith in tombs, scriptures & knife
But all I ask is to let me chose my way
To thank you for presenting me with my life
