Maya and Josh- The Long Game

Calm before the storm

It's almost end of November, Maya just turned 17 in October. She was just happy with being one year older which meant one year closer to maybe finally going out with Josh. She had an amazing birthday party at Topangas with all of her friends, including Josh and her family. Ever since that time when Maya tried to seduce Josh they somehow seemed to be able to prioritize their friendship over their romantic interest and feelings for each other. Josh balanced his time well, he made it a habit to stay on campus for a couple of weeks and then he would visit the Matthews and with that, Maya of course. In between, Josh tried to text Maya here and there so they could keep in touch when he wasn't around. The two got to know the other ones personality a lot better and even though they have not gone on dates yet, they went on some really fun trips together with Mayas friends who now also became Josh's. He enjoyed hanging out with them even though he was older, he didn't mind at all, he actually learned a lot from them and he was thankful for it. But despite all the good times it wasn't easy at all for the both of them cause as their friendship got stronger so did their feelings as well. And without actually telling Maya how fond he had grown of her she kind of knew by every gesture, gaze, smile and talk he gave her. She trusted Josh and she finally became more confident in knowing that he really did like her, a lot.

Now it was almost time for Josh's birthday again. But little did Maya know that this would be a birthday she wished she would have never had to experience.

„Maya, I feel offended that my birthday somehow makes you sad", Josh half jokingly said as they hung out at Topangas while Maya worked her shift there.

„Josh I'm sorry, of course I'm looking forward to your birthday but can't I be a little upset about it at the same time?"

„You can but it wont keep me from enjoying to tease you with my favorite phrase..." he smirked

„Don't you dare say it, I will punch you!!"

„Oh what was that again? Oh yeah I remember, I'm 3 years older than you" and he burst out laughing as Maya literally punched him on his arm, „I hate you Josh",

„ooouch, your punch hurt girl. And no you don't hate me, you actually like it when I tease you" he laughed while he pulled her in for a tight hug.
Both gazed into each other's eyes as their laughter turned into soft smiles. Josh's gaze always made Maya blush. She purposefully turned from his gaze and played it cool again

„You know Boing, if you don't stop flirting with your eyes like that you won't be able to resist me next time we watch a movie" she smirked while they simultaneously slowly let go of each other

„Relax, gorgeous, I have full self control" he overconfidently said with a smirk while Maya just rolled her eyes at him.

„I gotta go back to NYU, but see you at my birthday party on Friday okay?" Maya nodded, „I'll be the girl dressed all in black" she smirked.

„I hope it's a hot one" he just yelled while walking out of the cafe. Maya just shook her head in amusement over the boy who always seemed to make her heart jump at no matter what nonsense he said to her.

Josh just walked across campus as a girl with long red hair and green eyes stopped him „Hey, uhm, Josh right?"

„Yes, can I help you?" Josh answered with a suspicious look on his face.

„My name is Amber, we are in biology class together."

„Oh yeah sorry I remember your face, just didn't know your name, so whats up?"

„So this is kind of embarrassing for me but I wanted to ask you if you would like to grab a cup of coffee with me sometime?" She asked with an almost seductive smile on her face.

Josh was a bit overwhelmed, it has been a while til he was asked out on a date since he thought everyone knew by now that he was waiting for Maya. „Ehm, Amber it's really nice of you to ask and I'm flattered but I actually already like someone, I thought everyone knows that by now."

„Oh yeah I heard about that, it's a Highschool girl right? And you are waiting for her to turn 18 or something?"

„Yeah exactly" he grew more confused

„Well, don't get me wrong but I mean I just thought it would be cool since you're not actually dating her yet."

„Well, sorry but I don't do that, I don't go out with girls, I'd rather wait for Maya, thats her name actually and I really care about her."

Amber tried to play it cool even though she hated what Josh just said „Okay, I get it, sorry for bothering you, Josh. See you on your birthday I guess? I heard you're throwing a party and everyone is planning on coming, it'll be fun and I'd love to meet that special girl of yours." Amber suggested with a smile.

„Oh yeah, I didn't remember inviting the whole campus but what the heck, yeah see you on Friday and I'm sure you'll see Maya then."
As Josh left, Ambers best friend, Lilly came up to her after watching her and Josh talk, „so, Amber, how did it go?" she asked curiously.

„That ass totally rejected me."

„Well I mean I told you he already has a girl he likes, everyone knows how serious he is about her."

„I don't give a shit about that stupid Highschool girl of his! I want him and I will get him."

„Amber, I don't think you should keep going like this I mean you have been stalking the guy for the last weeks, you are obsessive over him and I am really worried about you! Please just forget about him, there's plenty of other guys who wanna go out with you."

„But thats the point, Lilly, I hate that he doesn't want to go out with me! I always get what I want and I don't take no for an answer. I will get him, and I know just what I have to do to make that girl wish she would have never attended his birthday party." She said with a nasty smirk.
